Continuing a discussion from another thread..

Prob is, Romo is a glass-man. He is super-dominant, but he just does not have the durability to hold on the closer-role for an entire season.

We have a number guys in the minors who should be competing for the closer-role by next season, latest (Heath Hembree, primarily).

Riiiiight. Appeared in 202 games over the last three years. Where does that rank him among relievers? Top 5 probably. And compiled an ERA under 2. You probably ought to research before you post.

Look at his knees, numb-nuts. Look at his IP.

His durability has ALWAYS been his ??. That's one of the primary reasons he was not the closer out of the gate last year. Casilla got the job due to durability.

In fact, it looked like he tweaked his knee a few days back and has not been in a game since.

Do your research before you post on a team site...

Blade, Cal's right. His durability is a question mark.

Let's defer to the real experts who watch this this guy day in, day out. Bochy went to a closer by committee first because he wanted to save Romo's arm (and prevent any further flaring of the knee injury)

Blade, your stats lack context. How many full seasons does Romo have as a full time closer? Full time closers can be asked to pitch multiple innings and on consecutive (sometimes three) games without rest.

In Romo's past, when fatigued, his best weapon, the slider, flattens out and he gets rocked. There's a reason the Giants leaned on Casilla and sometimes Affeldt to close out games.

What Romo did in the postseason was incredible, stepping up big when his kneecap could've popped out at any time (blame the gangnam).

The Giants' bullpen has the versatility to ease the pressure off a typical 162 game closer. I think Kontos (thanks Yanks) could shape up to fill the Casilla role and move Casilla into closer if necessary.

Romo's a very important piece to the Giants' success, so why push him beyond effectiveness?
