Why does root sports refuse to stream Mariners games for cord cutters?

I've been without cable TV for about two years but I have internet, I use YouTube TV and can watch most of the cable channels everyone else can watch but I found out quickly that root sports will not stream anywhere unless you have a cable package with the channel.

I know I'm not the only mariners fan on this forum that can't watch anymore either.

Get on it root sports, we want to watch but cant and it's been like this for years.

That's really strange. I generally only stream events that I don't have a channel for and can find a free stream somewhere online.

I don't know much about package deals, but I'd assume MLB.com has some sort of package where you'd be able to stream any game you want.

It might not do much or even anything, but I'd consider e-mailing them asking for an explanation/request the ability to stream the games.

Damn I just looked it up. You're completely right. Sounds like you might be shit out of luck.

In the end it probably all comes down to money and for whatever reason they determined that this model is more profitable for them for whatever reason. That's a bummer though.

i haven't had cable or dish for 2 years, either.

root sports is awful. other regional sports networks are available with streaming ala carte services, but not root.

i'm just lucky that i haven't really felt a need to watch m's games.

as far as the "why" behind root's idiotic cable/dish-only viewing, and all of MLB's blackout rules, it's about money, and nothing else.

The MLB package sucks since home games are blacked out. I'm not paying for that shiat.

The Mariners don't want people without cable. Screw them then I'll go watch something else.

I will never pay for cable again, and I won't allow cable companies to force me into buying cable because they hijack our sports teams.. I've been waiting for the NFL to only show games on cable, so far the league just simply hasn't allowed it, because I"m sure cable companies have tried... Mariners should just offer a direct package to consumers online, like 200 a year or something and you can stream every game all year, they have some options like that but it blocks your home area so you only get to watch the M's later after the game is over, that wasn't cutting it with me...

It really is weird that Root doesn’t stream. And weird also that MLB doesn’t since they are trying the whole streaming for free on Facebook.

It's weird all right but I'm sure money has something to do with it somehow. Money is behind almost everything....including sports especially. What I can't figure out is why Root sports is only showing the "at home" spring training games. That's another thing that doesn't make any sense to me and I can't figure out how the money thing plays into that decision. :gaah:

I have the cable package with root sports and they're not streaming all the ST games for some reason... I check in today and they weren't streaming the game today either...

Money is the reason, but that is also why I’m confused about why they are stealing games on Facebook. I don’t know the business arrangement but it seems MLB is trying to go after millennials with Facebook so why not realize streaming is going to be the new cable in a couple of years?
