I have my eye on one that is practically brand new. It is a Remington .270, model 770 with black synthetic stock and a mid grade scope (can't see any sort of identification on it) and the guy wants $300 for it.

What say you?

I have a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world. It could pretty much blow your head clean off.

I blew the skull off of a squirrel today. He was at the top of a pine and all I could see was the top of his head. Shot him with a .22. When I picked him up he was missing a quarter size piece from the top of his skull with about a 1/2 - 3/4 inch deep hole in his head. The bullet went in right under the ear and blew the top off his head off when exiting. It was neato.

Great round. Kill a lot with that round. 300 seems reasonable to me for a well kept rifle.

Brand news ones are $349 at Bass Pro. So if it is really "like new" and shoots well, been well taken care of, not too many rounds down range.. sure.

My personally, for $50... I like new. I would try to get him down a bit to feel better...

The guy I'm buying it from is a friend and reloads so I am saving the brass. And I did buy it. I had it in my hand and didn't have to drive an hour and a half to the nearest Bass Pro and I didn't have to "jump through hoops."

I was looking today and everything for the 270 was 130 grains, is that the best round? And if you buy off the shelf, do you buy Winchester, Remington, or some other brand?

The Remington 770 is one of the worst price point rifles out there. What ever you do don't buy the damn thing it's not even worth a boat anchor. There are so many good price point rifles on the market today. The Ruger American, Savage Axis, Remington 783, Marlin XL7 they are all ten times the gun.

Do yourself a favor sale the damn thing to someone you don't like.

Come on, it can't be that bad. All I own is a Marlin .22, a Remington 870 express, and a 50 lb recurve. I needed a rifle and this was put in my hands without any "hassle."

Run the action slow then run it fast. It feels like it's got gravel in the bolt it's horrible and the trigger sucks. The Marlin XL7, Remington 783, Ruger American, and the Savage Axis much better actions. The Marlin and Ruger has the best triggers IMO.

Edisto one of my best friends owns a gun shop he doesn't stock the Remington 710 and 770 due to way to many returns, repairs and in general way to many complaints by customers. Plus, Remington has discontinued the line altogether.

With proper PM my 710 cycles just as smooth as my old man's 700 but still not quite as smooth as our pre 64 winchester model 70
