To have your 2nd round pick from 2016 retire after one season is a pretty crushing blow.

Crazy.

Isn't he the guy that was left with vision problems after a concussion last season?

This might be a problem for the NFL in the long run if guys are retiring early due to concussion fears

Now you know how the Niners felt after Boreland's sudden retirement a few years back...

"Star" may be a bit of an over-statement, but "solid-starter" for sure...

LOL, no he was getting more tackles than the previous all star at MLB was with like 12-15 tackles a game and knocking RB's three yards back when he hit them and forcing TO's.

You can take the MLB out of Wisconsin, but can't take the Wisconsin fan out of the MLB, it seems...

This was what 49er life time fans said to me. When I watched the film I had to agree with them. The games he started and played in the full game as a rookie he had 18, 17, 13, 8, 16, and 14 tackles combined with 2 int's, 3 PD's and a sack. Show me one MLB rookie over the last decade that even had close to those numbers.

I'll wait

Imagine realizing your entire future was tied to Danny Snyder as you considered whether it was worth rolling your brain around your skull in high-powered collisions as a career move.

I don't recall any RBs getting knocked 3 yards back on the regular when hit by Borland. He did come up with 2 INTs in one game, though I don't think that constitutes forcing TOs like how you're implying. He had no forced fumbles for instance.

I do remember saying to myself and my son who's a 9er fan. That Borland looked every bit as good as Patrick Willis ever did. That he was a tackle machine and the 9ers defense wouldn't drop-off with Borland. His retirement stunned me quite frankly, but yeah, even though it was a small sample size. Borland played as good or better than Willis did for that 2014 season imo.

His mom is a,Cowboys fan, I'm guessing he grew up one too. Maybe fandom played into his timing.

Doesn't matter as long as the Skids get burned.

Well, the upside might be that guys stop using their helmeted heads as weapons and the number of concussions would go down.

Nah, too many dummies trying to make the highlight reels instead of wrapping up and executing a proper tackle.

I don't understand this. If he was about to be cut or something, maybe, but this guy wasn't bad. Feels like a Calvin Johnson, doesn't want to play the game anymore or something? Just wierd.
He had a concussion last year bad enough to mess up his eyesight.

I'm thinking he kept thinking about CTE and decided his health is important.
