meanwhile back at the ranch the Rays keep on winning. 11 of 12 now or something like that and they're sending Price to the hill this afternoon to finish off the Brewers.

They will probably be pissed if Boston gets a load for Jonathan Lester... They are on a massive role and yet they are still under .500... They know they still have no chance at winning this season (possibly a tiny chance at the last wild card), but because of this ill-timed win streak, they are stuck...

At least they can try to trade him next season - but at a diminished value....

here's why I think it's to their advantage to keep Price until the winter. When they discuss deals in the winter they have time to talk with a lot of people about a lot of options. The team(s) who're interested in Price will have time to discuss a long term deal with his agent and make sure they aren't investing in a rental. Ultimately this leads to a better deal for the Rays and for Price. Moving him now makes no sense IMO. The Buster Olney's of the world act as though they have to move Price when that simply isn't the case. The Rays have all kinds of room to move and negotiate here and are on no one's schedule. They move him now and it's a rental type deal which will not get them as much as they will get in the winter. As for the Rays , they're winning a lot and are still under .500 as you pointed out. But here's the thing: they have arguably the best starting staff in the AL and are healthy now. Getting that staff healthy and together is exactly why they're winning like they are , so why can't they expect this to continue? Their staff is good enough for them to take over the East I believe. It isn't probable but it is possible considering the East is so weak this year. It's still July , they have time and they have the bodies. There isn't another team in the East that is capable of rattling off wins like this. We both agree their horrendous start is possibly too much to overcome , but maybe it isn't. It's gonna be fun to watch especially if the Rays stay healthy.
