Congrats on acquiring Lucroy and Jeffress.

2 studs who hopefully will help in getting the club to the next level

Thanks, we will thank you again if we win a WS. You can thank us when Ortiz and Brinson start killing it too

Sucks for him, but at least he isn't going to try and play just to collect a check, when he knows it isn't likely to workout. Hope retirement allows him to have a good life after baseball and he can be somewhat active for his family life after his career ends
My thoughts as well. He can focus on what he has left to play ball with his young sons, coach them and be there for them. Plus focus on getting himself fit for the rest of his life.

Does this release his contract?

Ok so the dough comes off the table unlike with AROD? AROD still getting paid AFAIK.

Or maybe the retirement was a renegotiation of the money and Prince stays on as front office management or scouting, development in some capacity.

The terms of his retirement are unclear, although, as Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan tweets, the Rangers are “believed to have” a significant enough insurance policy on Fielder’s contract to protect them against a career-threatening problem like the one Fielder currently has. As part of the trade that brought Fielder to Texas, the Rangers are also receiving $30MM in payments from the Tigers to cover what’s left of his contract.

As Prince's career comes to a close....all Tiger fans would AGAIN like to thank the Texas Rangers for taking that AWFUL contract off our backs - and giving us Ian Kinsler (top 10 in WAR currently) in return. The $6mil Detroit will pay Texas for the next four years will be a sad reminder of a mistake that could have really backfired in OUR faces - if the Rangers had not come to our rescue. :)

We'll be paying only slightly more than y'all due to insurance, so thanks for agreeing to kick in 6 million a year
