Here is the list of current DL players as of today:

J. Adduci Finger
E. Beltre Leg
P. Fielder Neck
P. Figueroa Elbow
M. Harrison Back
D. Holland Knee
K. Kouzmanoff Back
M. Moreland Ankle
A. Ogando Elbow
J. Ortiz Foot
M. Perez Elbow
J. Profar Shoulder
G. Soto Leg

Then there was:

Scheppers Arm

I am sure I missed someone but thought a thread might be necessary to chronicle this historic year of misfortune. Holy *hit what a list, it is a wonder they are where they are at the moment.

Here's something for you, Murph:

@JeffWilson_FWST: Derek Holland headed to Arizona after #Rangers determined left knee isn't ready for rehab assignment. Fielding better, but not good enough.

Would be a lot of work to maintain, but maybe at the end of the year (or now for those out for the year), list how many games each missed.

Maybe August for Derek? Might as well take the rest of the season to completely healed and the knee strengthened. He won't help all that much with the rest of the injuries unfortunately

I can probably get that done along the way, or at the end of the season for those who may come back or those that might have a chance to come back at some point.

Almost looks like the roster of an all-star team.....

Neftali Feliz was on the minor league DL for a while, if that counts. Also, Choo, Robertson, and Odor have been removed from games and sidelined for additional games due to injury (not DL though).

There very well may be hospitals in some places without as many injuries

Oh yeah Donnie Murphy was placed on the DL May 8th with a neck strain, pretty sure there had been 18 to the DL so far.

Thought I would post here what I posted on the series thread because its DL related

The thing about Holland that scares the bejesus out of me is that it was a microfracture surgery where they drill holes in the bone to regenerate growth of the cartilage acting as a big scab.

“It’s brutal surgery," he told me this week. "You’re punching in and creating these big holes in the surface of the knee. When you see the surgery done, you’re just like, ‘Wow.’The idea is that the stem cells and blood from the marrow will come through those holes to become fibrocartilage, which cushions exposed bone. The problem is that fibrocartilage isn't real cartilage. The real stuff, though, is irreplaceable.

"The surgeon’s trying to create a layer of cartilage to give [the patient] some layer of shock-absorbing properties in that area," said Dr. David Geier, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist based in Charleston, South Carolina. "The problem is that’s not typically as good as the normal cartilage you have, and it tends to break down over time. We just don’t have an easy or reliable way to make cartilage new again."

Scary shit for a guy who's power comes from his legs

On the plus side its not the result from already having bone on bone, it was more of a preventative measure to prevent actual damage to the knee joint

I do believe that the level of cartilage damage that was caused by how long it may have been an issue (say it being undiagnosed for some time) makes a difference as well in this type of treatment. Hopefully it was a result of the tripping over the dog and not something that may have preexisted that became prevalent after they went in and started taking a look at it. I hope for the best but I won't get my hopes up as I did for Matt. Though that was a totally different scenario altogether. I say let him build all the strength he can and comeback next ST.

In reality... he can throw/pitch now. He's been throwing bullpens for awhile.
They are just worried about the leg having enough strength to field ground balls/bunts/etc.

So yes, he'll be back. Probably late July though.

To add to this thread...

Rangers have used 40 players this season.
And 10 have been rookies.

The way I look at it, 12 or 13 of those guys would be or are on our 25 man active roster right now which means we have been down about half of our team at some points. Even 10 of the guys out right now would be on our active roster puts us at about 60%. That's really tough.

Another way to look at it is we are missing 60% of our starting rotation and at least 45% of our starting lineup- not sure who would get the DH duties out of Moreland or KK if they were healthy.
