They are playing a worse team.
Didn't matter when we played the White Sox
They are playing a worse team.
True. KC has been good to us many times in the past.Didn't matter when we played the White Sox
The Rangers, based on how Mendez has been pitching at AAA and the majors, might need to explore a demotion lower than AAA, maybe Down East and make him work his way back up
It should only be an open competition at that point if Profar played the rest of the year as badly as Odor has played for the last year and a half. Tepid is suggesting much too long of a leash.
Perhaps figuring out what Elvis is going to do is a factor as well. Leashes are not a huge concern to me this year especially before ASB. Perhaps things may crystalize then
Very good points. The issue is taking any playing time from a a player of similar age thats vastly outproducing another simply bc they stupidly threw a lot of money at the other, Andrus has outperformed Odor, Profar has outperformed Odor, IKF has outperformed Odor, Beltre has outperformed Odor, Choo has outperformed Odor....
Why is there even an open competition??? Odor has already lost to everyone, Profar at 2nd, b/c he can't do SS (Andrus), he can't do 3B (IKF/Beltre) and he can't do DH (Beltre/Choo), or LF (Choo/Gallo), or 1B (Guzman/Gallo)
All players mentioned above have been better players than Odor this year, even Gallo, and even if you drop Gallo, there's STILL not a spot for Odor in the starting lineup
You have a lot of young guys coming up in the next 3 years, what message does it send to them, that if you bust your butt put up good numbers, you're going to sit or stay in the minors bc of bad money spent? No point in trying at that point
Profar has things to work on, but why bother working on them if they aren't even going to play the better player?
Tepid was suggesting the leash being extended into next ST though. That is a sign to me that he has stuck his head in the sand regarding Odor. He has some very good insights into our minor league system, but he seems to be way off base with this big league situation.Perhaps figuring out what Elvis is going to do is a factor as well. Yes good points. If there is no faith in Odor improving then yes what you say makes sense but if this year is like extended Spring Training and if you think that Elvis might opt out and Beltre might be traded then we might just work with Odor to see if he may become serviceable.
At this point it is a nobrainer that Profar is better but we may need him to slide to SS or even 3B or use him in a trade for pitching.
Best to keep your powder dry IMO. If we play your and most of this boards argument out then you DFA him. Other option is to let him continue to work things out in the minors. Makes no mind to me but probably see more challenging SP up here.
I think the team thinks he is legitimately changing his approach and he is a work in progress. Plus they think he has potential. I don't think he is currently blocking anyone legit in minors but may be cutting into our guys on the roster one day a week. Big deal
BTW A little open competition never hurt a team IMO. When Wash reniggged tha, much of the board protested.
Real issue is lack of trust in the process. It's all a conspiracy some may think and merit is a pipedream. Let them all compete I say

If competition is good then why wasn't Profit allowed to compete last year at sone point. Did the organization fail in allowing competition at 2B last year and at the beginning of this year? I don't remember you touting competition at the position prior to them doing so. Is it the competition you like or are you simply trusting whatever they decide to do to be the best thing that could happen?Yes good points. So you think Odor has no future value and Profar is limited to 2B? hyperbole much? Like said why not keep powder dry. I am hoping he is not beyond repair. Rangers collecting walks tells me a new approach is being preached
I just get the feeling that keeping your "powder dry" in your mind is to let things play out the way Rangers''s management orchestrates it and then proclaim that is the way it should have happened. So you think Odor has no future value and Profar is limited to 2B? hyperbole much? Like said why not keep powder dry. I am hoping he is not beyond repair. Rangers collecting walks tells me a new approach is being preached
The option to send him to AAA still exists, he has plenty of fundamental things that going to AAA would help with, pitch recognition, putting together quality ABs, not chasing bad pitches, knowing the situation, bunting, etc... Evaluation of players can take place in AAA too, we're paying for several more years, I'd love to see if we can get something out of him, but his opportunity this season has been lost IMO, at least until the trade deadline, and I don't think you monkey with Profar right now to see if Odor has anything,
In summary, taking time away from Profar to see if Odor has anything is stupid... Beltre & Choo you're trying to build value for a trade, IKF is the ultimate UTIL guy and will get his ABs all over the diamond something that Odor can't do... Odor had his season and then start of this one to pull himself out of it, give Profar his, so we can see what we have
So outside of a rest day, there's no reason to sit anyone else and you already have IKF that can literally fill in anywhere
The open competition took place in the time that Odor came back and Andrus came back, Odor lost and now Profar should take Odor's 2B spot
