I know it was almost a done deal at the end of the season but, 2 games into the year. At least they didn't fire him at the air port like they did Kiffin

USC fires coach Clay Helton two games into seventh season with Trojans
Not a quick hook at all. He should have been gone a long time ago. He is an amateur masquarding as a professional. Now maybe we can get to work. It was only the cheapskated-ness of USC that he kept his job last year because they didn't want to pay his salary after they fired him.

Who do they go after now?

I don't know if Matt Campbell at Iowa St. fits the USC mold, who do you want?

The guy I would love them to get is Chris Peterson the former Boise State and Washington coach. He resigned at Washingtpn. Wanted him instead of Helton in the first place.

Good luck with that. Don't think he is interested in living in LA.

What about Fickell from Cincinnati?

I believe that was the issue last time they tried to hire him and he chose Washington instead. I know nothing about Fickell

Man, they took that one hard. Be interesting to see who takes the job next, didn't realize he'd been there as long as he has.

Actually, let me be the first to go ahead and predict Matt Campbell.

Urban Meyer? Looks like he doesn't fit in Jacksonville already

Do you think he has a mystery illness?

Is he going to get a bad case of COVID and have to resign? Or, just go Bobby Petrino and leave a note on the players lockers and sneak off.

It was a bit more than that...Swann basically gave him a huge buyout. I'm sure it was a tough call too because he's a genuinely good guy and it's not like he was terrible. 46-24 is a respectable record. But overall, his teams didn't perform to USC standards. Especially in big games.

His same accomplishments at most other schools would earn him an extension. But not at a school like USC that expects to be competing for the cfp every year.

What must be done inevitably, should be done immediately. After that Stanford debacle, fans would be booing from start to finish. Not a good look to show recruits.
I get it.

I know I was ready to fire Kevin Sumlin before the UCLA debacle 4 years ago. Then it was like watching "dead coach walking" the rest of the year. Luckily Jimbo was able to come in and salvage some recruits that year, but it was a bad recruiting year.

The bold is a big part of why they fired him now. It's also, imo, why they made Donte Williams interim head coach. USC just had a very low (by USC standards) recruiting class a couple of years ago (the only reason he survived that was a $20 million buyout) they don't want another one like that.

Yeah, I don't see USC doing that. It's not like they don't have the talent to compete for the cfp, they don't have the coaching.
Well, that's lots of teams
