Mickey Mantle- 1956. In 652 PA, he hit .353/.464/.705 with a 202 wRC+ and a .498 wOBA. The .498 wOBA is the 48th highest wOBA in a single season, and the 202 wRC+ is 29th highest in a single season. He also played good defense, and his 11.5 fWAR is his highest single season total, and the 15th highest by a position player in a single season. When you hit .353 and STILL have a .353 ISO, it's a legendary season.

Rogers Hornsby- 1924. Hornsby has the three highest single season WAR's from a second baseman (Morgan in '75 is fourth, Hornsby has the next three after him) and '24 was his best season. 13.9% BB% vs. a 5% K%. .424/.507/.696 with 25 home runs. .537 wOBA, and a 221 wRC+. He also played great defense.

His .424 batting average that season is a live-ball record, and the sixth-highest total for a single season of all time. The NL brought back the MVP, and Hornsby was expected to win in a landslide, but it went to Dazzy Vance (8 fWAR) instead because a Cincinnati voter thought that Hornsby wasn't a team player. Modern DNA testing has revealed that the voter was father to @Iffster, @broncosmitty, @rmilia1, and @handicappers

One of the all-time "overrated" seasons, Donnie wasn't even the best player on his own team in 1985 (that was the guy who kept getting on base in front of him).
Rickey Henderson?

Both guys had great years. Neither are among my "favorites".

Brad Lidge 2008. Even though closers are overvalued in my opinion it sure is great when you have one that doesn't blow any saves.

I don't know how he was able to do that when he gave up as many baserunners as he did.

Damn....this is one sad post. I mean REALLY sad. Poor little pecker has so few attachments to real people...he had to include his "tormentors" in a post on Fathers' Day. I'm sorry for you young man, truly sorry.
I don't know your condition, location or your situation. But when I was little, I found it helpful to get my baseball glove and a tennis ball/rubber ball and bounce the ball off a brick or cement wall for awhile. Kind of relieved tension and took my mind off my problems. Just a suggestion. (I realize that in your case, you may not even own a baseball mitt. I guess you can't bounce an fWAR, huh?)

Alfredo Simon's 2016 may end up being one of my favorite seasons... just not for "greatness" purposes. In 53.1 innings (11 starts, 2 relief appearances), he has a 9.45 ERA and 2.06 WHIP. Opposing batters are hitting .348/.434/.597 against him.

There's a lot of luck involved. Which is why guys like him rarely have 2 or 3 really good seasons in a row

Winning the MVP in this year and the last player to win the NL Triple Crown, I love Joe Medwick's 1937 season. He hit .374/.414/.641. His wOBA of .467 was fourth that year; behind Gehrig, Greenberg, and DiMaggio. His wRC+ of 180 was first in the big leagues, and he finished with the third highest fWAR among position players with 8.3 wins.

Not old enough to remember 1980, and it's already been used, but Miguel Cabrera's triple crown year in 2012 was, even if not the most valuable per WAR, the most entertaining year from a hitter I have seen.
That was such a good year, almost as good as Mike Trout's rookie season and that's saying something!

From 2002-2003 it was no longer cool for Dodger fans to leave early.

Omar...glad you are getting interested in the older eras of baseball. Refreshing. But I just want to remind you....if you had tried to explain wRC+ or fWAR to Ducky Medwick, he would have stuck a Hillerich and Bradsby up your ass - barrel first. :)

I have been interested in all eras of baseball for a long time. And why should I give a fuck what a crazy eccentric from the 1930's thought of me?

Easy there Omar....you have to start working on your social skills, if you plan on being a Front Office Executive.

Have you contacted any college teams, or maybe Independent League clubs to see if they have need of a guy with your skills? Do you speak Spanish or other foreign language? I have a couple of friends in Australia. Baseball is growing there....but I don't know if Sabermetrics has caught on. I think they use the Fosters Beer tests on their players. Number of cans downed = games you will play.
