Should we make a list of the teams that could have gone undefeated with those opponents?

Would it be a list that actually did, or one of your fantasy lists?

Let's make a list of teams that could and couldn't beat Auburn.

Ok, but let's only include teams that played them when it a made a difference - aka before the playoffs were decided.

I like Pat's better because they have shrooms, and I like mine with shrooms. I like the bread bettter too...even though Geno's is actually better bread. I also appreciate the Pat portion of wiz...if I'm getting shitty processed cheese on my sandwich, do not be shorting me.

Hard to go wrong with either. Some of my Pa friends rave about John's roast pork and Tony Luke's. But John's has sesame seeds on the bun...GTFO with that fancy shit on my wiz. Never done Tony's, maybe next time.

Honestly my wife and I love both. But Geno’s is a little more juicer. (which means they are way greasier)

Johns Pork I’ve never had but Tony Luke’s are good. They are right by the stadiums so a bunch a people get them on the regular. Love the provolone on that one.

Ohh, and I hate all of philly sports while we’re at it.

The fact that Alabama is on the list that 'couldn't', and LSU (who lost to G5 Troy) is on the list that 'could', says the CFP is full of taint.

What was Alabama's quality win in the regular season again?
Fresno St?

The fact UCF isn't on the list in either section is because they didn't play the game when it mattered for the National Championship and their results are therefore invalid.

Based on what you called a "quality win":

Florida St
LSU
Miss St
Fresno St

Were all as good or better than what you listed for UCF.

Florida St: (6-6)
LSU: Lost to P5 Troy
Miss St: Lost to Ole Miss
Fresno St: Lost to UNLV

LOL...I'd take Memphis and South Florida over all of them.

#28 LSU
#33 Fresno St
#46 Memphis
#72 UCF
#93 South Florida

As has been stated before...If that is the only metric used than the system is flawed. UCF beat their teams 'like they should have'. UCF went unbeaten.

It's great that Florida St had the #5 SOS, but at (6-6) THEY SUCKED. Therefore Alabama also beating them is meaningless.
It's great that LSU had the #28 SOS , but they lost to G5 Troy.
Therefore Alabama also beating them is meaningless.
It's great that Fresno St had the #33 SOS, but they lost to UNLV.
Therefore Alabama also beating them is meaningless.

Alabama did not go undefeated. Alabama did not win their conference. Alabama did not even win their Division.

records and SoS are 2 things that go together. Kind of like how Wisconsin went undefeated in the regular schedule while playing a crappy schedule, UCF did the same thing - but worse.

20 teams could have done what UCF did.

That FSU had the #5 SOS says nothing about how good/bad they were.
That they went 6-6 on that schedule says how good/had they were.

"Look how great we are. We beat the team with the #5 SOS in the country"

Said 5 other teams.

As a statistical exercise, I wonder what the probabilties are of Wisconsin and UCF of an undefeated season using the current rankings of their opponents.

LOL...I'd take Memphis and South Florida over all of them.

...and yet the best OOC win Memphis has is 6-7 UCLA and the Best win South Florida has is 2-10 Illinois.

LOL, this is not some of your best trolling.

You don't know that, do you?

I highly doubt FSU could have beaten UCF. And that's what matters.

It's a reasonable expectation.

If FSU doesn't open with Alabama, they don't lose their starting QB and they play nothing but cupcakes all year long.

Alabama beat FSU 24-7.
Alabama beat Clemson 24-6

Using your shitty logic, doesn't that mean FSU is as good as Clemson and a top5 team before they lost their QB?

# of expected losses an elite team would have on Florida St's schedule:

2.06

# of expected losses an elite team would have on UCF's schedule:

0.98 - and it's only that high because they played Auburn in the bowl game. Their regular season expected losses was less than 0.50.

# of expected losses and elite team would have on Alabama's schedule:

1.76 - but a little higher because of Clemson, it was closer to 1.25 before then.

So basically, the only way an elite team would have a loss on UCF's schedule is if they just mailed one in. Meanwhile, between 1 and 2 losses are expected(and do commonly happen) among the tougher schedules.

Auburn's is the highest/toughest - 2.87. Near 3 losses expected for an elite team on their schedule - and they didn't even get much credit for UCF.
