yep. I mean, Nike being right there in Beaverton (burb of Portland)

was a perfect marriage that never happened.

Portland would be so much different if Jordan would have been here. Probably would have MLB here ya know.

Unless they somehow managed to get Pip and Phil Jackson as well it could still be the same.

Just read an article where if Portland didn't draft Bowie they would have gone with Barkley. Clyde and Barkley playing in their prime would have been very interesting

Also just read that Portland offered Drexler and the #2 pick for Sampson

Ex-Blazers exec: Portland wanted Bowie and Barkley over Jordan in 1984 draft | The Point Forward - SI.com

Harry Glickman, one of the Blazers’ founders and a member of the basketball operations staff in 1984, admits his team didn’t just want Bowie over Jordan but also everyone’s favorite TNT analyst ahead of His Airness.

“If you look back at the draft,” Glickman said, “if we hadn’t selected [Bowie], we wouldn’t have selected Jordan. We probably would have gone with Charles Barkley.

Draft deal stranger than '1984' - Chicago Tribune

Olajuwon claimed the Rockets had an offer from Portland -- which wanted the more talented high-post center (Bowie) -- to trade Sampson for the No. 2 draft pick and the chance to draft Jordan. It was the birth of the so-called "Twin Towers" era, and the Rockets did get to the NBA Finals in 1986, losing in six games to Boston. But it was clear Olajuwon was the superior low-post center and he was the sure keeper.

Olajuwon wrote that the deal would have been Sampson for the No. 2 pick and Drexler.

^ P-Town was always about a big man in the middle, never found one after Walton. One has to remember that the Blazerz had to find a way around the Laker biggies back then (Jabbar) and thru the Shaq days. All that's really left now a days is the Spurs Duncan to bypass.

Portland is loaded these days with Aldrige, Lopez , Mathews and Lillard of course. They should go deep this year in the playoffs in my OP.

Isiah Thomas was on SVP and Russillo a few weeks back and did you know Thomas still tries to justify that Curry trade? He really delusional. Forget what the picks turned into. That is hindsight. What isn't hindsight was no one wanted Curry because he was fat and out of shape AND HAD A HEART CONDITION. But Thomas was like, fuck it! Let's trade away assets and overpay him!

The rest of the interview was comical. His only argument for all his horrible moves basically boiled down to "Well I drafted David Lee".
