yeah...that sam bowie pick must still sting, eh?

yep. I mean, Nike being right there in Beaverton (burb of Portland)

was a perfect marriage that never happened.

Portland would be so much different if Jordan would have been here. Probably would have MLB here ya know.

The Durant move was bad but I could defend the Jordan one. They already had Clyde

Ya, maybe. But Bowie was already injury prone when drafted. I mean he sat out an entire year at Kentucky.

Plus Clyde could easily play the 3.

But I get your thinking for sure. I have played the scenario over in my mind countless times.

Maybe Portland tries to trade Clyde for Sampson (knowing the Rockets were taking Hakeem).

Does Houston make that trade?

You have to remember this was a time when everybody thought you had to have a big man to win. You roll the dice

I wonder if Portland had won the coin toss, took Akeem, then Houston picks Jordan????

lots of what ifs that would have drastically shaped the NBA in a different light.

Portland calls heads, we have a Phi Slamma Jamma reunion in Rip City with Clyde and Akeem.

Ya, I get that. But the writing was on the wall with Bowie. They didn't do the proper research and physicals.

The Blazers are the Kings at making 1st round picks a bust Mamba...How many centers have gone "belly up" for them? 4 IF I'm correct.

Blazers could have had G M Jordan, Blazers took C S Bowie instead...ouchhhhhy

Of all the 32 teams or so....

Portland is the one with the least amount of cache to make fun of other picks.

They are the permanent kings of bad draft day decisions in hindsight.

All teams make them, but the Blazers stand out amongst the crowd.

^Does anyone remember LaRue Martin of the Blazers? Chicago school guy in the 70's. I can say one thing about LaRue, guy could take off flying at the top of the key and dunk the ball, amazing. Other than that, kid was a bust at center.

^ Of course LaRue was drafted ahead of HOFer Bob MacAdoo, who was latter coached by HOFer Dr. Jack Ramsey @ Buffalo. Ramsey went on to coach the Blazers to their 1st NBA title in 77'.

Ironic isn't it?
