PUBLIC POLL
This is Heisman trophy winner Johnny 'The jet' Rodgers punt return against Oklahoma in 1971.
Sooner fans like to claim there was a clip at :14.
Other Sooner fans claim that the blocks at :10, AND the block at :14 were clips and that they are "obvious".
They can't be clips because a clip is from behind, below the waist, and to the back of the legs.
Clip - "Throwing the body across the back of the leg of an eligible receiver or charging or falling into the back of an opponent below the waist after approaching him from behind"
The real question is were they blocks in the back?
Block in the back - An action in which a blocker contacts a non-ball carrying member of the opposing team from behind and above the waist. The foul is called when the area blocked is from outside of the location of the shoulder pads"
My contention is that at :10 the defender is not only out of position (facing the wrong direction) to make the play, he turns at the last second and was blocked into Rodgers who broke the tackle anyway. The rule is you can't turn at the last second which causes someone to hit you in the back. He was more hit in the side anyway. i.e. Not "outside of the shoulder pad"
At the :14 mark. The blocker (34 yd line) was clearly in front of the defender (41 yd line). In the next frame the blocker (at the 39) is still in front of the defender (at the 40) then blocks him in the side. Not "outside of the shoulder pad"
