5dimes was the first sportsbook to give odds for the top 5 teams to make the playoffs next year.

1. Florida State: -260
2. Alabama: -120
3. Oklahoma: +150
4. Oregon: +160
5. Ohio State: +180

Interesting first take. Ohio State on the outside with a 36% chance. This seems to indicate that the Big 10 is getting the least respect.

I like Ohio State's chances better than Oregon because I have a feeling USC is going to be greatly improved without Kiffin.

I would agree. PAC seems to be underestimated. Might have been the best conference last yr and I think they vie for the title this yr.

Oregon doesn't play SC. Only way would be ccg

OK but point is still valid because you have to think both will be favored for the ccg.

They just might SEC is replacing a lot of QB talent so it really depends on how the new guys perform.

OU's chances of getting into the playoff rest primarily on whether Trevor Knight can stay healthy all season. So far he makes Sam Bradford look like the Iron Man. Without a healthy QB, Oklahoma is a 9-3 team if they have to go back to Blake Bell or risk playing a newcomer in midseason. With a truly healthy Trevor Knight playing as much as they want to play him, OU can go 12-0.

loving the Dark Knight Rising. The hype is pretty crazy for a guy that was basically mediocre to bad last yr. 9 Tds 4 ints. Brutal 6.1 yards per pass. 59% completion. I would fade the hype a bit. It was 1 game vs a team that came in completely unprepared with an incredibly bad game plan. (which regrettably means Stoops and Co had a great game plan on O)

UCLA will be overwhelming favs for the South and maybe the conference. I don't buy it but that is what we will see when media day and preseason mags and polls are out

UCLA brings back a lot. OL comping back, which if they take a step in protection could make Hundley a serious Heisman candidate.Could really use Vanderdoes livingup to his potential. Run defense needs an upgrade if they are to compete with Oregon. I think USC is the 3rd choice, but I do not understand the Stanford hype at all.

I felt the same way you do, Codaxx, until I had a chance to talk to the coaches after the Sugar Bowl game. It was a couple of weeks after the game and things had cooled down so I think their comments meant more than if I had heard what I did 15 minutes after the final gun. They said the way the players were responding to coaching, the way they were thinking on the fly and the way they were finally (FINALLY!) starting to understand that they could actually win big games on the road (no Notre Dame doesn't really count) makes them think that with some added talent (which they got in their latest recruiting class) the 2014 team can be in contention for a shot at the NC. As you know, so much of any success is mental; OU's coaches think the team finally grew up a lot in the Sugar Bowl and a huge part of it was mentally growing up. If they're right, then OU will a beast. But that will also depend on Trevor Knight continuing to improve as he did toward the end of the season.

If Knight does go down, Baker Mayfield is now enrolled on campus. Duno if that is a plus or minus, but it is something. Also I heard Bell wasn't going to be taking any qb reps, so they will have to have someone else to back up Knight.

Yeah, UCLA will be favored to win the South. From a frontline talent perspective, USC will be able to match up with just about anyone in the country. The question will be whether or not they have the depth.

I think he is eligible right away cause he was a walk on
-
Tech did not sign the waiver. Mayfield is appealing the last I heard. Amazingly, walk-on means nothing to the NCAA. Really odd

There are only 3 teams I hate enough that I'd always pull for Texas to beat them: Texas Tech, Notre Dame and North Korea.
