Playoff expansion, good idea or bad idea?

Should the NFL expand the playoffs?

  • No, it's perfect the way it is

  • No, they should allow fewer teams in

  • Yes, 14 makes sense

  • Yes, but why stop at 14?

I'm okay I guess if they expand. If they keep it at 6 each I'm good with that as well. I'd rather they change the playoff format that benefits the team(s) with the better W-L record. Four division winners and 2 (or 3) wildcards and seed them 1-7. 2015 would look as such...

(1)DEN (12-4)*
(2)NE (12-4)*
(3)CIN (12-4)*
(4)KC (11-5)
(5)PIT (10-6)
(6)NYJ (10-6)
(7)HOU (9-7)*

(1)CAR (15-1)*
(2)ARZ (12-4)*
(3)MIN (11-5)*
(4)GB (10-6)
(5)SEA (10-6)
(6)WAS (9-7)*
(7)ATL (8-8)
(*)division winner

Welcome @PhilSimms11.

Disagree.

Playoff expansion is a bad idea. To expand you have to add teams with poorer records.

I like the division winners getting seeded as such. Otherwise teams in crappy divisions (coughxxxPatriotsxxxcough) get a big advantage

Why not just expand the league to 100 teams, have 10 in L.A., another 10 in Europe and have a 25 game season with a 40 team playoff.

If we're gonna water-down the product, let's go all in.

Can we expand it to 32 teams? I want the Chargers to have a shot at making it.

I don't see anything wrong with adding ONE team per conference. Instead of six teams per conference all your adding is one more team. The way it would work the team with the best record in each conference gets a bye while there is 3 games per conference in the opening round.

2008-AFC-New England 11-5 and NFC-Tampa Bay 9-7 would've made it in.

2009-AFC-Houston 9-7 and NFC-Atlanta 9-7 would've made it in.

2010-AFC-San Diego 9-7 and NFC-New York 10-6 would've made it in.

2011-AFC-Tennessee 9-7 and NFC-Chicago 8-8 would've made it in.

2012-AFC-Pittsburgh 8-8 and NFC-Chicago 10-6 would've made it in.

2013-AFC-Pittsburgh 8-8 and NFC-Arizona 10-6 would've made it in.

2014-AFC Houston 9-7 and NFC-Philly 10-6 would've made it in.

2015-AFC NY Jets 10-6 and NFC Atlanta 8-8 would've made it in.

Lots of times a 10-6 or 9-7 team misses out. Not one time did a team make it with a losing record. I like the idea.

The only change the NFL should make to the playoffs is WC team with a better record should host the home game against the 4th best division winner with a lesser record. I dislike the idea of adding more teams.

I would only be okay with it if the NFL also adjusted their seeding system at the same time. Otherwise, I am not really a fan.

But it is going to happen whether we like it or not. There is too much money on the table for the the NFL & NFLPA to not expand their markets, seasons, & playoffs.

Good call. I love these jackasses who say stupid shit like, "I dang ole don't wanna see 6-10, 5-11 teams in da playoffs. It be like hockey if they does that." Also, in 2010, the Buccaneers went 10-6 and missed out. So, we had a 7-9 division winner (SEA) and 2 teams go 10-6 and miss the playoffs. That was a wacky season. I'm good with division winners guaranteed a playoff spot. That's all I would guarantee, however.

I read that the Arena Football League (AFL) will have 8 teams in the playoffs. How many teams are in the league...? You guessed it...8. It's 2 conferences of 4. Hilarious. It's 1v4 and 2v3 in each conference. What's the point?

They should add six more weeks to the season, 8 more teams, and everyone gets in the playoffs
