good start so far.

sandberg as manager, +1.
dubee gone, +1.

i've said many times it's absolute bullshit that we have such trouble producing bullpen arms. there's clearly something wrong that no one can excel. rookies, young players and especially vets. they either do well before coming here, or after. even the starting pitching. if it's not established guys like lee and hamels.. not much is going on there either.

On Dubee's shift, ERAs declined from 2009's surprising 4.16 to 2011's 3.02. 2012 saw it balloon to 3.83 then to 4.28 this year. Personnel had a lot to do with that, like the loss of Madson in 2011 and the woes of Halladay and the inexperienced relievers more recently. You have to lay some of this on Dubee, obviously. A change is good at this time since Sandberg would want to choose his coaches for the coming year and the Phils need new blood in their entire coaching staff.
