Not to mention, the Rangers efforts towards Otani may also provide some luck in their favor.

$28m/year would give him the 4th highest starting pitcher average salary in baseball. I think (read: hope) that that figure resides in a sweet spot where he knows he's leaving some money on the table, but he's also being paid comparable to the elites in the game (in some cases, a lot more), and he's also in a place where he is revered and comfortable.

When were those deals signed though? He has the good fortune of being a FA at just the right time to cash in for his life's work. He's gonna be leading the FA class, and I wouldn't begrudge him that if that's the route he wants to take. I've enjoyed watching him and will wish him well regardless.

In a perfect world they would keep Darvish for cheaper and sign Otani...I wish it was that perfect world.

Kershaw: 7/215 (2014)
Greinke: 6/206.5 (2016)
Price: 7/217 (2016)
Verlander: 6/162 (2013)

Hopefully people will learn soon that 6 & 7 year deals for pitchers (and Choo) is a horrible idea 5 years is really tops that a pitcher should expect to get

I think we are gonna see more and more opt out clauses so they will likely never hit those last couple of years unless they are hurt.

Not even close to Jaar.

Eh Crawler posts A LOT more, we won't see jaar again til we lose 3 in a row or something, I'd say Crawler's volume of negativity is far greater

jaar is just more negative in much smaller doses

I'm ok with that

Options based on achieved incentives would be even better

So 5 years guaranteed with a team option with maybe. $15 mil buyout?
