Rangers Reaction from Friday’s second straight 5-2 walk-off

This is a serious question: Would Adrian Beltre have been as productive a hitter had he not been injured as Joey Gallo as been as Beltre’s fill-in?

I’m not joking. This is my job.

The first thought is, “Of course, moron.”

Hall of Famer vs. Unproven Strikeout-Prone Slugger.

There’s little doubt that Beltre would be batting better than Gallo’s .203 and would have at least half the strikeouts. Batting third or fourth in the lineup, Beltre would have had ample opportunities to match Gallo’s team-leading 27 RBIs.

(Maybe not ample, considering the state of the offense.)

Beltre could retire with more than 500 home runs, so maybe he could have matched Gallo’s team-leading 12 home runs. No. 12 came Friday in the ninth inning as Gallo dinged the foul pole in right field for a three-run walk-off homer.

As for the advanced metrics that measure the damage/value of each hit, Beltre certainly could have delivered his fair share of those just as Gallo has so far.

Duh.

But ...

After watching Beltre for six seasons, he’s usually a slow starter. His power flashed itself again last season, with 32 home runs after consecutive seasons under 20, but he usually waits until it’s a bit warmer to start sending balls out of the ballpark.

The defense would likely be better with Beltre at third, though Gallo hasn’t been a liability.

Gallo has been better on the bases, and it’s not close.

It’s a serious question: Would Beltre have been as productive as Gallo?

It might be difficult to answer because the obvious answer isn’t so obvious.

One year ago today.
We won the skirmish that day, but they embarrassed us in October when it mattered a whole lot more. But that day was a lot of fun.

We are just about one-fourth of the way through the season. We have played 9 games against teams with a winning record and are 2-7 against those teams. We are 17-13 against teams with a losing record. In our 19 games that we have won the opponents combined record is 321-396 and average a record of 17-21.

The good news is we still have quite a few games the rest of the month against losing teams. After that it starts to swing the other way. 16 of the 26 games in June are against teams with winning records.

At this point we have 51 games left against teams that currently have a .500 or better record and 72 against teams with a losing record.

Nadel pleaded "lack of knowledge" on the status of Darvish's future here. Says Yu is a very, very private person, and attributed part of that to his incredible popularity in Japan. Therefore, he chooses to keep himself "at arms length" at least from a media standpoint.

Nadel says Gallo is a very mature guy and he expects him to get better and better.

Good. I have no issues with this at all. It irritates me that the local media is probably up his ass about the contract situation.

I thought he was at Round Rock.
Yes, I was just coming back to correct that. He is working his magic at the AAA level.

Sorry about that.

in former Rangers prospect news, apparently Dillon Tate fell off a cliff and is no longer highly regarded by the yanks.
