Funny story - well, not really funny but...

I originally shelled out $275 (per ticket), but it was a last-minute decision, so I didn't buy them until after the Classic was already sold out; went online and found a broker, and thought, "well $275 isn't too bad."

Turns out the tickets were reprints. Got frauded. AND I travelled 3,000 miles (with my girlfriend) for the event. Unfortunately, the people at the Fenway Booth were unsympathetic. So for about an hour, it looked like we weren't getting in. Needless to say, I was pretty upset.

Well, my girlfriend decided to go down to the ACE ticket shop - right down the street from Fenway - just to see if any tickets became available at the last second...and we were in luck. She ended up taking a hit of about a thousand dollars on her credit card, and I love her for that. Haha. I paid her back right away, and obviously we got refunded for the original frauded tickets.

Moral of the story, buy early. :p

you actually got a refund on the frauded tickets?? lucky there. i always worry about that, especially when trying to buy on ebay or craigslist. i'm certainly gonna keep on the look out for whatever tickets are available. i really wish i was one of those people with a million connections...or relatives with a million connections to get tickets. i know so many people with these, but they never seem to make it to me. stoopid.

Yeah, the guy frauded five other people. So we all sent in a complaint.

I had just graduated from college at the time, so that helped out big time. Broke the bank a little bit, but it was a time for celebration! Flew to New York and caught both games there, and then took a train down to Boston for the Classic.

didn't the AHL do one in Vegas a few years ago?

LA Kings played in September

The Kings made NHL history with the first ever outdoor game at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

L.A. KINGS 5, New York Rangers 2

The Las Vegas strip provided the background for the first ever NHL exhibition game to be held outdoors. The Kings and the Rangers battled under the lights outside Caesars Palace - the first hockey game played in Las Vegas since 1968 - in mid-80 degree temperatures. The game drew a crowd of 13,000, most of whom wore shorts and t-shirts to take it all in. "We were a little bit in awe and I'm sure (the Rangers) were too," said Wayne Gretzky, who tallied a goal, about the outdoor game. "We kept looking at each other and couldn't believe we were playing hockey in 80-degree weather. But it was real nice."

So when will tickets for this game actually go on sale? I'm guessing we don't know. But any estimates? This summer? Early fall?

There goes my hopes for a Sharks - Kings winter classic in LA next year...

I have given this a little thought and the best years for this in LA are 2012, 2017, and 2023. Why? you might ask. Because those are years when New Years day falls on a Sunday. Why is that important? Ah good question. When New Years day falls on a Sunday the Rose Bowl is played on the second. This ensures all the media will be in LA and there will be no other big game in town on the same day.

Umm, ICE? I'm sure 50-55 degree weather would be great to watch the game in, but keeping the ice really cold and not puddling may be tough at those temps. Not to mention the effect of warmer weather on the players. It sure would suck if it rained too

Arenas are much warmer than 50-55 degrees, most are in the low 70s or warmer.

They could make the ice and keep it decent unless it got super warm. I cannot remember the range given in the article the NHL released last year, but it was warmer than you would expect.

Either way, I am a very small majority that think outdoor game are a really stupid gimmick that they are running into the ground. I hope for a driving rain for every single one.

If you've got the money, do it man. Just cap your upcharge to 20% for your friends here :)

Actually, with Jan 1 being on a Saturday, and my annual holiday trip to visit parents/grandparents, I should be in the Burgh on Jan 1. And yes, I've been one of those holding out. ;)

tweet from Sean Leahy (puckdaddy fame) had a paraphrase of David Moorhouse saying that they have a preliminary design for the classic uni's. so yes, there will be new uniforms. (DIAGONAL PLEASE! they're my favorites)

Well, I have lots of family and friends in Calgary, methinks a trip back to Cowtown next February is a definite possibility.

lol...We'll probably get a chinook and 63 degrees on game day. Same thing happened in 1988 when Calgary had the Winter Olympics, the ice was melting on the bobsleigh/luge track.

Can't say I'm excited to see Pittsburgh in another one of these so soon, but I'll still watch I'm sure. I just hope Pittsburgh doesn't get into one of these every other year. Spread the wealth a bit. Contrary to what you'd believe watching NBC and Versus there are more than 8 teams in the NHL.
