I got a message today that my iPod is corrupted. I see some tips on how to trouble shoot it, so I'll try that this weekend.

Anyways, my main question here is let's say I need to get another one.

The one I currently have is engraved with a message, and a date, it was a gift to me.

If I get another one, should I have it engraved with the same message? It kind of feels nice to look at. :)

On the other hand, a new iPod won't be the same, obviously. I'll have to associate the message with the new iPod too, mentally.

Actually, let's jump back a step. If I have to get another mp3 player, should I even get one by Apple? Or is there another brand/make/model I should look into? I'm not 100% in love with Apple.

I've been dealing with the ipod for more than 3 hours, 20 minutes today.

And I've been on again, off again talking to Apple Care for more than 2 hours now.

It started to work better now, but still can't copy everything.

I'm trying formatting the iPod now.

Hopefully that will fix or hide the bad sectors on the drive.

I tried the full reformat, but near the end it still gave an error while formatting.

I then tried the quick format. It seemed to work better, but then still couldn't copy everything from my library to my ipod.

Right now I tried to Windows check disk "scan for and recover bad sectors" option. It took over an hour, JUST finished.

Let's see if this did it.

Ok, I'll try the full reformat one more time. Sigh.

Oh my goodness, now after this latest format, it can't start properly. It tries to, makes a clicking sound, then tries to restart again. Every 10 seconds.

There's no way to stop it.

I made it worse.

It does this all by itself and there's no way to stop it. No way it power it off.

not sure how to fix it.

but if you do, i recommend backing it up every few months or so.

sharepod is a nice little program for it, thought there might be other better ones.

if it's making a clicking sound, then it's a physical problem with the ipod's disc drive. if the music/video/picture files you had on it were deleted due to your reformat, then you might as well toss it unless you want to pay for a repair, which would probably take more time and money than just getting a new one.

Hey. :)

Yeah, the files were deleted off of it. I was hoping after a reformat, I could still copy the library on my computer back to my iPod, but I can't copy everything, there's always some disc error.

Until my latest problem as of a few minutes ago.

All I can say is never again to iPod or iTunes. Never! I'm free of both of them and it's liberating.

Do they not have just a little MP3 player you can throw in a USB part and go any more?

I was going to suggest something like that if all you do is play music but I can't for the life of me find one.

Ok, got out of the infinite restart loop. Going to try synching AGAIN. For the 10+ time today.

I just can't quit this. This is all I've done today (with the playoffs in the background).

What do you use now?

Amazon Cloud Player instead of iTunes and I love it! With Amazon fort he same price I get instant mp3 access as well as a CD two days later. iTunes is atrocious and expensive.

For a portable mp3 player I use an old droid phone of mine.
