Ben's probably done, as is Pouncey if that's the case. Lot of money coming off the books.

This season was trending towards dud even with Ben so it being spent evaluating the team's QB of the future isnt the worst thing ever.
didnt they just extend Big Ben another 2 years?
If so how big of dead cap would that create if he retires next year?

Well that sucks. I liked Mason Rudolph coming out of college, best of luck to him. And Ben great career for a great franchise, if it ends this way that kind of sucks IMO>

I think if he retires it just goes away?

Could be wrong though.

All jokes aside BigBen's had a helluva career. Sorry Steelers fans that he's gone out like this. If this is the end for him, tough way to go out.
the toughest QB to take down, as voted annually by his peers. he only surpassed 30 TD's, 3 times tho.

I'm fine with BJ Finney stepping in for Pouncey.
Guess it just depends on where they finish. If its a top 5 pick, then its not likely to be a O-lineman since they do have O-line pieces to provide stability.

Finney gives them good continuity. But is he the pro-bowl caliber that Pouncey is? No. He does give them better chances of not having to give up higher draft capital to find a replacement though. Foster will be 34. If they go O-line in the top 5 then he better be a Quenton Nelson, annual pro-bowl type talent.

He would lose any roster bonuses and salary if he retired.

He could stay on the roster and force the team to either carry him, IR him, or cut him. Or he could look for an injury settlement.

question for you:

was bens career below expectations, did he meet them, or did he exceed them?
Exceeded for me. Got a HOF QB who brought two championships to the city.

Not many teams get something like that. Easily the best player of that draft. IMO.

Leave it to a Pats fan to nitpick.:heh: And in todays pass-happy league he only threw for 4,000 in a season 5x (5,000 once). Is it safe to say that both of his coaches were more run oriented than pass?

In '04 I wanted the Browns to take him at # 6. Instead they took Kellen Winslow Jr.:L

Thank you, so much.

Who knows how our two franchises would have turned out had you. He was your hometown boy, too.

You with Ben, Pitt with JP Losman?

Shudder at the thought.

Doesnt tommy john surgery take more than a year to recover from? Closer to two years I have heard?
Or is it different between pitchers & QBs? Does anyone know?

Roethlisberger passed the ball 1,236 times over the last 2 seasons... Tomlin was intent to ride Bell until the wheels fells off, then he held out and he rode Ben's wheels off instead.
