Goodfellas (again). 4/5 stars

My top 5 gangster films:
1. The Departed (5/5 stars)
2. Pulp Fiction (4.5/5 stars)
3. American Gangster (4.5/5 stars)
4. Resoivor Dogs (4.5/5 stars)
5. Goodfellas (4/5 stars)

I assume The Godfather I, II are much further down on your list. That is my #1 but I like each of the movies you listed.

Don't get me started on The Godfather. I watched it about 3 years ago and thought it was slow and boring and gave it 2.5/5 stars. I thought I must be crazy as that movie is universally recognized as one of, if not the, greatest achievements in cinema history, so I watched it again this past May and revised my rating to 2/5 stars. I just hate that movie. I haven't seen II or III. Maybe someday

You gotta see GF Part II which shows the early life of Vito and how the Sicilian vendettas affected his life and how he came to America. DiNiro plays young Vito in NY and generally how he and his associates, Clemenza and Pentangeli, got started in the mob then moved on to bigger things in Vegas and Cuba. Fucken acting is brilliant. It's not the high speed gangsta story than goes a mile a minute like The Departed. It's a thinking man's gangster flick. Rent it this winter while the Phillies are trying to figure out how to unload Howard and Ruiz. Oh, and then, go fuck yourself.

I'm going to bump Birdman up to 3/5 stars. It sat well with me (especially the last 20 minutes). I watched A Most Wanted Man last night. 3.5/5 stars. Great performance from a great actor- Philip Seymour Hoffman. RIP

I haven't had time to watch a complete movie in a while but I was looking at Netflix today and I ran across a 45 minute documentary called "The Seven Dwarfs of Auschwitz" . (I swear I am not making this up). I will check it out and report back sometime tomorrow
