You have a million arms in the minors you could have used but the FO decides to fuck with the one arm that isn't ready? You haven't addressed that.
The other options are either injured, looking shitty, or not in line to start. The next best option was Sam LeCure (seriously).

His arm won't fall off if he throws 10 more pitches than he ever has before.

Padres might have a new weapon to use out of their BP.

Fun Fact: stealing bases is way easier if the catcher throws a knuckleball.
You gotta think Doug Mirabelli would have loved to have had a knuckler that he could have thrown back to Wakefield all those years, just to get him back for all the bell-ringers he had to deal with...

A decade or so of poor drafting doesn't help.
They had a very good prospect pool. Preller decided to gut the system. For some unknown reason he believed the Padres were ready to contend last season. This is a very important draft for the Padres. They have three 1st round picks & a lot of picks in the first 85. They can't afford to miss though.

You really only haveto hit once in those top picks to be effective.

The Giants had 6 (SIX) first rounders in the 2007 draft, and only hit with one of them. Most Giants fans consider that a very good draft...

This. Sox only had a couple of guys in the 01-04 draft classes that did anything, but those guys were Pedroia/Youkilis/Lester/Papeldouche.

The problem I have with the Padres is they have a history of not taking the best player available. If the team doesn't take the most talented player on the board the chances of success drop in a big way. There are a number of pitchers Preller traded away who would look good with the Padres right now. Led by Ross. Rizzo never should have been traded. That trade still upsets me, but I can't blame Preller for that. He wasn't the GM at the time.

So the Padres had a 12-2 lead heading into the 6th. The M's went on to score 14 runs over the next 2 innings.

Really? @Bolts @HammerDown

As a fan, I would LOVE it. But I am pretty sure Boch has already stated that it won't happen.
