I've never been so frustrated with the Padres as I am now, due in large part to the expectations I had of our offense clicking. Headley and Gyorko are absolutely abysmal!

3 nights ago til last night? 2-for-28, 3-for-35 and 1-29. :L That's 6-for-92 or a .065 ba. :mad2:

Why have we hung on to Will Venable for so long? There was so much hype for this guy, and here we are in 2014 and the guy is barely above the Mendoza line. With our pitching, we could easily be in the running for a WC if we had some offense.

I like William. I wish we'd use Denorfia and him more.

I think Phil Plantier must be fired today. Something has to happen or we're heading for the cellar. We have stellar pitching and they must wonder why they're even going out to the mound every night. :frusty:

Venable was a good player before this year. Last year's power numbers were probably an outlier (he had a HR/FB rate near 20%, and his career average is 12%), but he has an extremely low hr/fb rate right now (only 2.9%), which is also probably an outlier.

In his defense, he's not getting any sort of consistent ABs. If they're not going to shake things up soon offensively, then I say start trading now. This is unbelievable. :gaah:

Change of scenery might do him some good anyway. His career stats at Petco are considerably worse than his road stats (though not so much this year).

Not many want to leave the Padres, but I'm sure him and Denorfia would love to go to go somewhere they can play every day.

What's getting lost in the no-hitter SportsHoopla is the fact that Lincecum's been one of the worst pitchers in the league over the last 2.5 years. The Cooperstown talk around him is absolutely ridiculous. A guy with less career WAR than Floyd Bannister, Tim Wakefield, Jarrod Washburn and Gary Nolan. He also has less than active guys like Josh Johnson and Bronson Arroyo. Rings? Lincecum was one of the worst pitchers in the league in 2012, "worth" -1.7 WAR. He didn't exactly carry them to the postseason.

A no hitter is a no hitter but it was also against the worst offense in baseball. I heard SD's team avg is .213 or something like that. Insanely bad.

It's .213. They also have a team OBP of .273, "slugging" .337 and have a team OPS+ of 75. As a point of reference, the 2013 Marlins batted .231/.293/.335 (73 OPS+).

And yet, no other pitcher who has faced them this year has been able to no hit them. Try to minimize it all you want, but a no hitter is special no matter who it is against.

His 2013 was terrible, but I didn't realize it was bad enough to get him on this list.
