I don't see how the league can plan any sort of divisional realignment based on how good or bad a team or franchise is. You are basically admitting that the CBA is a sham and that there is no parity.

I agree with this. Unless you literally started all the teams over in one gigantic draft, I don't think those two teams would have success for many years because of the lack of talent. They'd have to rely on a lot of youth combined with washed up talent.

Plus you punish teams that have recently struggled to amass solid assets like the Jackets. They have some solid young players they are trying to develop. Teams like New Jersey, Ottawa, St Louis and Colorado build the right way too.

You will have an expansion draft and hurt those teams and allow teams like Rangers and Leafs who just fling around stupid contracts left and right out from under their own incompetence.

I hate Expansion Drafts.

Could you Imagine Ottawa having to choose if they let Bishop, Lehner or Anderson go for nothing?

While partly true, dont forget about UFA/RFAs. They would have to pay to get to the cap floor. So they would draft other teams bottom 6 guys they would buy their top 6 players. Also entry draft players are playing sooner. I think a three year build would get them up to speed.

i would like 28 teams and max 78 games per season

Conference A
Anaheim
Calgary
Colorado
Edmonton
Los Angeles
San Jose
Vancouver
Chicago
Columbus
Dallas
Minnesota
Nashville
St. Louis
Winnipeg

West
Boston
Buffalo
Detroit
Montreal
Ottawa
Tampa Bay
Toronto
Carolina
New Jersey
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Washington

Don't like the conference names. Prefer "East" and "Conference B".

I have the perfect solution. As teams move, adjust conference/division names and teams accordingly.

Conference AM

Division AC
Anaheim
Boston
Buffalo
Calgary
Carolina

Division CD
Chicago
Colorado
Columbus
Dallas
Detroit

Division EM
Edmonton
Florida
Los Angeles
Minnesota
Montreal

Conference NW

Division NO
Nashville
New Jersey
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Ottawa

Division PS
Philadelphia
Phoenix
Pittsburgh
San Jose
St. Louis

Division TW
Tampa Bay
Toronto
Vancouver
Washington
Winnipeg

But even this would create a mess. That just starts the mess that essentially caused this lockout. Overpaying under qualified players. They could draw them with big contracts, but the guys they'd draw wouldn't deserve those contracts.

Side note: how does an expansion draft work? I have NO idea.

I seem to remember a team could protect a certain number at each position. Everyone else can be picked.

Like 1 goalie, 5 D and 9 forwards and if you lost one player at each position you wouldn't lose any more at that position.

It's been a while.

Again, the Ottawa situation in Goal would SUCK for them. Which of your three stud goalies do you protect? Same with St Louis or LA. Vancouver...

What about prospects? I assume they're safe?

Interesting, Bobby Mac just said that there is a possibility with the proposed uneven conferences that the playoffs will go like this:

Top three from each Division in.
Next four are "Wild Card" with the next four best records, regardless of conference.

Hmmm. Hafta think 'bout that.

I don't like unbalanced conferences. I actually like it the way it is. I don't think they need to add anymore teams. Heck all the teams currently in the league aren't even stable.

In my mind the only reason to go to 4 conferences is if you are going to 32 teams, and the league isn't healthy enough for that.

Yes, I'm old, but I miss the division names - Pay homage to some of the league greats with the Gretzky, Orr, Howe, and Lemieux divisions.
