Stupidest trade evah.

Even Benning knows better

JIM BENNING......
Zona needs to rebuild and needs picks.

Also, Edmonton just traded for an almost equally useless guy with an identical contract a few days ago and GAVE UP assets to do so, so not even the stupidest this week lol

I remember when I said that about Seth Jones. Those were the days.

It'll help them get to the cap floor faster.
It’s different because Price’s contract is such a monster and has 5 years left but similar parallels to the Pens and Fleury. Wonder if ownership in Seattle thinks having Carey close to home might get him back to his best during the regular season.

So can teams still trade with Seattle before the draft or no?

If not, barring some handshake deals in the next few days it’s pretty crazy that we went from all those dumb protection deals with Vegas to virtually none with Seattle.
Answer here is no, so yeah, those stories about Seattle asking “exorbitant prices” for draft protection seems to have backfired on them pretty hard if that was indeed the case.

I guess they could make trades afterward to stash cap space for other teams but I can’t imagine the price is going to be higher than some teams paid the past few days.

One thought that I had is, is there any (minor or otherwise) reason why it was done specifically like this?

If they want to keep both goalies and not risk losing Jake Allen why is the move to protect Allen, expose Price and make arrangements so that Price isn't taken rather than protect Price, expose Allen and make arrangements so that Allen isn't taken? The end result is the same in both cases, Seattle gets compensated for taking a non-goalie and the Habs keep both tenders.

TB really couldn’t find someone to give them a second rounder or something for Gourde? That seems insane to me.

Maybe they are waiting it out keeping TB against the wall hoping the cost goes down.

Not sure a lot of GMs are in a hurry to *help* the Bolts.

Yeah but help yourselves? Guy was just 2C on back to back Cup winners who cares about helping TB? Seattle about to get a good player for nothing.
