NFL fires official Hugo Cruz, who missed false start in Chargers-Browns
First NFL ref to be fired in a long time.
First NFL ref to be fired in a long time.
Wait you mean to tell me if someone doesnt do their job properly you can be fired?
this would start a VERY bad precedent....just sayin....
yeah, i just saw that ..... highly unusual but should be done a lot more often
Yeah...like when they miss holding, hands to the face, face mask, and muggings...errr..I mean pass interference.
how so?
if you are firing people for missing calls you will fire 6 or 7 a year at least.
no, i don't believe an official should be fired for missing one call .... supposedly, they are graded each week .... i believe there are probably some officials that aren't getting very good grades consistently (if it is done honestly) ... if there is a pattern of bad grades for a certain official, he should be fired.
As per the link:
That call was not the only one that Cruz missed, and the report says one source described Cruz as not “maintaining a very high level of performance over a sustained period.” So this firing was not about one call, although that blatant bad call may have been the last straw.
So this went well beyond one call. If this truly was based on poor performance over a sustained period of time then this is probably justified.

So it had to be for more then missing a false start. There was a pretty bad missed face mask last night

This will come back on the NFL as some kind of racial inequality.
