I'm not big on touchdown celebrations - always appreciated Terrell Davis Mile High Salute after handing the ball to the ref - but - not being able to spin the ball what does that hurt? Let them have a little fun. I don't see it as disrespect to the opposing team. Wonder what the collective age of those making the rules up there is. Probably about the same as the old codgers who run the NCAA. End of rant.

They seriously seem to be taking the passion and excitement out of the game these days. To me there are crazier NFL celebrations that they can take out that would make more sense than this one. It really is a pretty tame celebration.

yea, i never understood why they want to limit TD celebrations, this is just making the game less fun to play if you ask me.

I don't believe this is a "new" rule. I think they are just looking to enforce it more. To answer why.....the less taunting there is would seemingly reduce dirty, retaliation plays that should not be part of the game. Sure celebrations are fun....until someone cheap shots a player and puts him out for the season.

The NFL just announced fifteen yard penalty for players smiling as they score a TD.

another pointless reason.....cheap shots happen in every game and it's not always because of celebration most of the time it's to help your team win. If that is the reasoning it only makes it more laughable.

This is being overblown. You can still spin the ball, or spike it, or salute, you just can't do it towards another player. It's just to eliminate any form of taunting.

To sum up:
Spinning the ball=ok
Spinning the ball at the corner you just beat for a 50 yard touchdown=penalty
