That right there is why the targeting penalty does not make sense. You can tell the refs don't even agree with the rule. He had "this is ridiculous" in his voice when he said "After the review..."

There has been twice the number of targeting penalties so far this season, than all of last year. They are coming down heavily on it. Like it or not, this is the new normal.

Don't have to complete passes out of it for it to have some impact on the defense. If it makes them stay home on outside quick passes it impacts other plays.

Ok, the FSU QB got creamed while throwing the ball - no foul even as the defender grinds him further while on the ground.

Then, the other guy gets an inadvertant hand to the face because he was tryign to block the ball, and that's targeting.

Game is fixed.

More emphasis this year on 'defenseless players'. There have been a lot of these against QB's so far.

Just put skirts on QB's already and be done with it.

Hand, arms, forearms, shoulders hit above the shoulders is targeting resulting in ejection. By rule, it was a good call. The rule is dumb though.

You can't go to the head against QB's anymore. Not incidental, not after the play, not ever. I don't agree with it, but that's the way they are calling it now. The FSU QB was not hit to the head, he was driven to the ground.

He was in the act of throwing it while hit. If he tucks it while faking it I doubt that is called.

I mean the defender was swiping at the ball and made contact with the head. It's a dumb ruling on a dumb rule. However, every team better get used to it because that's how they are calling things now.
