The Flames AHL team was based in Omaha for a few seasons - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights.

/In case you're wondering, Ak-Sar-Ben is Nebraska spelled backwards.

As if Nebraska wasn't backward enough without wacky spelling

Ownership group in Vegas got 5,000 commitments for season tickets in their first 2 days. Halfway to their 10,000 deposit goal.

Anybody else get the feeling that Bettman personally being in Las Vegas to kick-off the season ticket drive makes this a fait accompli?

i heard yesterday the season ticket commitment they are asking for in this vegas ticket drive is for the first season only lol

when true north did their ticket drive for winnipeg, i think the nhl wanted them to get a 67 year commitment

/ok maybe it was only 5 years ... but still

Over 5000 season tickets sold, in 36 hours, for a team that may never exist.
I am sure a lot of those are corporate/casino buyers but it is more than I expected.
When I go to Kings games in Vegas, there are a lot of LA people there, but they point to the attendance as proof Vegas wants hockey.

I don't know. I still think owners will want the biggest expansion fee they can get, and I'm not sure Vegas is the place to get that. It's also a tiny media market. I think his ego wants to be the first league in Vegas, and his presence and personal involvement is a message to the owners to that effect.

I see in the sportsnet story that the lower bowl including the corners (but the not the ends) have a minimum 3 year commitment for this ticket drive so its better than i thought

however, they are only asking for a deposit ... looks like a average commitment of $300

they asked for full up front payment in the Winnipeg season ticket drive

different markets ... different rules

The Thrashers were already confirmed moving to Winnipeg when the tickets went on sale. That is a big difference as well. Selling tickets when you don't know 100% that there will be
Ben be a team is another story.

and yet that sales threshold was still a condition of sale to True North :L

in vegas all they have to do is generate 3million dollars in deposit revenue and they get a team

yup ... different rules

Except that is not what happened. Team was sold, Bettman announced the team was moving to Winnipeg, then tickets went on sale, then the BOG approved the sale was guaranteed if 10000 season seats sold.
So people knew (had very good reason to believe) the team was coming before tickets were sold. Also they took deposits and people made payment plans for the tickets. The only difference is length of commitment. Winnipeg had the longer commitment but I don't think anyone had to pay 5years up front.
It is a lot easier to sell 10000 tickets if you know you are getting a team. Vegas has to sell 10000 tickets with no promise of a team. Much harder sell.

Vegas could get their 3 million in deposits and still get no team

Oh and just because I like to argue does not mean I think an NHL team should be in Vegas.
If(when) the Coyotes move and I think they should, maybe they can go to Vegas. But putting an expansion team in Vegas is just crazy stupid. After about 5-10 years it will be Phoenix part two. Sure I will see a game every other year there. Maybe if they play the Kings in the playoffs, I will hope to get cheap tickets, but like the Ducks I would guess they would raise prices for Kings games. There are too many other "shows" in Vegas for hockey to be a consistent bug draw.
