Garrett has said he'd be happy to play in Cleveland....not an issue for him.

Garrett grew up in Arlington and would just rather play for his home town team. Not a big deal, Dallas has no chance for his services.

Can't blame a guy for wanting to play for his home state where he has played his entire high school and college career. I mean obviously if I were entering the draft I would want to be drafted by the Broncos above any other team but when it comes down to it I would just be excited by the fact of being drafted. And really at this point I just can't see any way the Cowboys could get him without having to trade not only draft picks but maybe a cornerstone player to go get him. And they won't do that.

Sir Robin Of Camelot

You seem angry. Miserable, even.

He's probably seen all the footage of Goodell hugging players when they came onto the stage and was creeped out by it. Can't blame the dude.

Yeah...I guess I look at it like this...the plus, I'm going to be well paid....the negative, I'm going to be playing on a sorry ass team.

Peyton Manning and Troy Aikman were two of very few #1 overall picks to win a title with the team that drafted them...and in Elway (drafted by the Colts though) and that might be it for the modern era.

Pay is good, but it's tough gig.
Oh that's a fun fact. Here are all the #1 picks who have won a championship with the team that drafted them. I went all the way back instead of just the modern era.

1998: Peyton Manning (2006 Colts)
1997: Orlando Pace (1999 Rams)
1993: Drew Bledsoe (2001 Patriots) still counts right?
1991: Russell Maryland (1992/1993/1995 Cowboys)
1989: Troy Aikman (1992/1993/1995 Cowboys)
1974: Edward "Too Tall" Jones (1977 Cowboys)
1970: Terry Bradshaw (1974/1975/1978/1979 Steelers)
1967: Bubba Smith (1970 Colts)
1957: Paul Hornung (1961/1962/1965 Packers)
1951: Kyle Rote (1956 Giants)
1950: Leon Hart (1952/1953/1957 Lions)
1945: Charley Trippi (1947 Cardinals)

And if you want to count the AFL Draft, Joe Namath was the number 1 pick in 1965 (won with the Jets in '68) and Buck Buchanan was the number 1 pick in 1963 (won with the Chiefs in '69)

And I guess if you want to mention Elway, there's also Eli.

Draft Finder on pro-football-reference.com is awesome. Funny, the two QBs with 5 championships were drafted 199th (Brady) and 200th (Starr) overall.

Yep...good pick up. I forgot about him too.

Interesting that so few modern era teams are able to put enough talent around #1 overall to become consistent contenders...really goes to show that the draft in general and #1 overall is a crap shoot.

It is, awesome and funny.

Also interesting a guy that many had already given up on (Clowney) finally had his best season...when he became the go to guy....had a tough time being Robin I guess.

It's also a matter of being really bad to get that #1 in a salary cap league, so you can't just throw money at the problem. I would also suggest that there are only a few really good front office/GMs in the league, and they are on teams not drafting #1 overall.

Luck looked on pace to join that group, but the Colts plateaued, then regressed instead. Cam got to the super bowl, but that team struggled afterwards. Fisher (KC), Clowney (HOU), and Winston (TB) are still on the upswing, but haven't been proven contenders yet. Goff had the advantage of being drafted #1 overall by a team that earned the #15 pick, but the Rams collapsed last year with Goff looking terrible.

This in bold...amazing that so many teams are inept at the top.

It's not really brain science to build a competitive team....but, admittedly there is some luck (good timing) involved to get all the way to the SB. So many teams don't seem to understand the team has to be built from the inside out. At the same time, you don't need all 1st rd picks on the OL/DL.

LA...good point. I think we knew Goff was being over drafted, but if they don't panic maybe he'll turn out the be a solid QB. Build up the OL, and get him a WR1.
