That would be a ridiculous level of specialists on offense if we surrendered our 21st pick for Wallace and Richardson somehow fell to 17 due to his "injury scare". We would be rolling in talent on offense then.

QB Dalton
RB Richardson
FB Pressley
WR Green
WR Wallace
WR Shipley
TE Gresham

That is a dang near list full of pro-bowlers. We would have the best WR combo in the NFL at that point.

Hobspin has already been instructed by Mike Brown to throw cold water on this idea.... The reason the minister of propoganda is using is - get this - they need to save the money for AJ Green's future contract. I wish I was making this up - I really do.

I hate being a Bengal fan.

Joe Reedy also says that it's a bad idea. What they need in the passing game is a more physical style. Someone who can make the tough catch, and get over the middle. He says Wallace would have been a no brainer if they were still running Bob B's offense, but in Jay's offense, you only need one WR like green, and then the 2nd WR needs to be a tough yardage, over the middle kind of guy, more in the mold of Manningham or Meachem.

Got a link to this propoganda? They have to spend some money this year.

I mean I read it on the bengals website, but you are jumping to conclusions that Mike Brown is telling Hobsen to write that so we do not have to make any moves.

Couldn't this just be Hobsen guessing based off past actions?

Hobs is normally a good thermometer for how Mike Brown is thinking -- Whether he is plugged in to the upstairs office or not, he knows how the team thinks and how the team functions.

To me, it's a no-brainer. You give Wallace a huge contract and give up your 21st pick. You instantly have the best receiving duo in the league and you guarantee you have a top offense.

I guarantee it won't happen.

I mean hell, even if we lost Green due to not having enough money like Pittsburgh is having right now, we still have a #1 in Wallace and we would be owed at least another 1st for Green. In the meantime, we figure out a way to keep both and make both happy, while using Green and Wallace for the next three years against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.

And they don't have to spend money this year..... It's still being counted as overall spending until next offseason.

I thought team spending was being pushed to 90% this year but league still needed to be at 99%?

Besides, there are several reason why this move makes sense...

1) It gives us the best WR tandem in the NFL.
2) It steals the Steelers best playmaker making them weaker.
3) We have the money and the picks this year to warrant such a move.
4) Prevents Baltimore from adding him to their arsenal.
5) Keeps us from having to get AS STRONG AT DB to cover all these guys.
6) Forces the rest of the division to add CB depth to cover all our weapons.

If anytime to do this, it is now. Besides, you have 3 years before you have to worry about resigning Green, and you can frontload Wallace's 6 year contract over the first three years, allowing you to have more wiggle room when it is time for Green to sign his big deal. Back load Green's contract a little, not a lot, and you seperated the spending over these two by quite a bit then.

AJ Green
2012: $4,469,000
2013: $5,364,000
2014: $6,259,000

If Wallace signs a front loaded contract: (6 yr. / $56 million ($30 mill bonus):

2012: $12 million (including $10 mill bonus)
2013: $12 million (including $10 mill bonus)
2014: $11 million (including $5 mill bonus)
2015: $8 million (including $5 mill bonus)
2016: $7 million
2017: $6 million

In 2015: Cap will be higher and Green will want his big contract (6 years / 72 million):

2015: 9 million
2016: 11 million
2017: 12 million
2018: 12 million
2019: 13 million
2020: 15 million

Between the two of them: they would make the following per year against the cap:

2012: 16.5 million
2013: 17.4 million
2014: 17.3 million
2015: 17 million
2016: 18 million
2017: 18 million
2018: 12 million (no Wallace)
2019: 13 million (no Wallace)
2020: 15 million (no Wallace)

I like the idea of getting Wallace, but I agree he isn't the best fit for this team. Dalton doesn't have the arm Big Ben does, and I know Green gets a lot of deep balls, but a lot of them are him going up and getting the ball like he did against Pitt. I think picking up Meacham and then spending that extra 1st round pick on some O-Line or a CB might be a better idea.

Probably what it is going to come down to anyways, as Mike Brown might choke on his own tongue when thinking about signing a WR to a near $60 million dollar deal.

And with how Wallace fell off the 2nd half of last year I'm not entirely sure he is worth 60 mil anyways.

I think that had more to do with Big Ben being injured and Brown not being doubled like Wallace than Wallace not being as good as the first half.

Sign an actual good FA? Not as long as Mike is still alive.

It won't happen. Wallace would take less money to play for New England.

He's going to New England, and Chad will get pushed out.

end of story.

This is the Cincinnati Bengals, we are the Washington Generals of the NFL, the only reason we make the playoffs is to make playoff teams look good.

Although the point is moot now...my biggest objection would be giving Pittsburgh an extra 1st round pick.

That would have given them another chance to reload a roster desperate for an infusion of youth. They are relatively set at WR.

Wallace
Brown
Sanders
Cotchery
Ward (probably for one more year)
late round pick

Also...Big Ben just restructured pretty much assuring they keep Wallace. However, they keep robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Even if we did want to go after Wallace he has the right not to sign the tender offered by the Bengals, right? Dont see him leaving Pitt in favor of the Bengals.

Pitt would have to be willing to pay the same amount.

Not sure Pittsburgh could afford 9 to 10 million a year for him.
