The Steelers won their game on Sunday in Cleveland, but they lost their shot at the bye week that would have accompanied the AFC North title.

They also may have lost their starting running back for the bulk of the offseason, if not longer.

Coach Mike Tomlin told reporters after the game that running back Rashard Mendenhall could have a torn ACL, and that Mendenhall is not expected to play next weekend in Denver.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that an MRI will be performed tomorrow. (As if that needed a source.)

Mendenhall would be the second big-name running back to suffer a torn ACL in consecutive weeks. Eight days ago, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson suffered the same injury.

they'll be fine. Mendenhall's a little overrated and Redman is a solid player. That's what you get for being a 'truther'.

Mendenhall wishes he was Rudi Johnson. He's done.

Mendenhall is overrated, and not really that important to the Steelers offense.

I don't think he's overrated. No one is calling him the next Barry Sanders, or anything remotely close to that level of a running back.

The biggest part of Mendenhall's injury is the fact that the Steelers are already very depleted in the running back department. Jonathan Dwyer(3rdRB) and Barron Batch(4thRB) are both done for the season. Mewelde Moore (third-down back) has a lingering injury, and his status is unknown for next week.

That leaves them with Isaac Redman, who is a capable back-up, and 1st year undrafted back, John Clay. The Steelers are probably going to have to sign a FA this week, and that isn't good.

The Steelers don't use the run as their main weapon. They use it to set up Roethlisberger.
