With the NFL head coaching positions starting to open like steamed clams, word is that Josh McDaniels is on a number of teams wish lists. Already rumors are starting that San Francisco and Chicago are interested and that the Woody Johnson would like to talk with Josh about directing the Jets.

For awhile, it's been pretty much thought that McDaniels would hang around the Patriots and take Belichick's job when he retired. Now that Brady has publicly stated that he plans to play for at least another 5-7 years, can McDaniels stay under BB's thumb and let opportunity after opportunity pass him by??

......the only thing that is "certain" is that Brady is guaranteed his remaining $24-million over the next three years...( can't beat that salary...!),......and if josh takes a hc/job it better be outside of the AFC-east, and not ~burn~ any bridges with B.B. Just in case he comes back "home"...!

Old friend of Josh's, Dimtroff, has reportedly asked the Pats of he can talk to McDaniels about coaching the Atlanta Falcons. Same thing is being said about OC of the Broncos Adam Gase.

Josh McDaniels agrees to interviews with Falcons and 49ers this week
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com 12-31-2015

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels [ame=""]has agreed to interviews[/ame] with the Falcons and 49ers for their vacant head coach positions, according to CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.
The interviews will be hosted this week in New England. McDaniels was also the 49ers [ame=""]first choice to be head coach[/ame] in 2011 if Jim Harbaugh decided to go elsewhere.

The Patriots were 11th in total offense in 2014, but fourth in points per game, averaging 29.3.
McDaniels was the head coach for the Broncos in 2009-10 where they went 11-17 in two years.

Wtf! If he's going to do these interviews, why not wait til the offseason!? His head needs to be on the games not head coaching jobs right now!

He's being interviewed this week in Foxboro by both the Falcons and 49ers. According to everything I've heard, it's pretty much 99% he will be offered the Falcons job on the spot and that he'll take it.

If that's true, I imagine he'll concentrate on the OC position with the Patriots because he'd like nothing more than to bring a Super Bowl Ring to flash in front of his new team. .... If anything, he'll put twice as much effort into his job.

Don't forget, Dimtroff was on the Patriots staff before he got the GM job with the Falcons. He and McDaniels go back a long ways.

I heard that Rex was the 49ers favorite because they believe they have the defense in place and will need to make solid to compete against the Seahawks. They also think Rex knows the right offensive people to get the 49er offense on track and optimize the players they have. They'll also have to convince a few guys to stay.

Most coaching positions are filled by the off season. This happens every year. Teams looking for coaches are always trying to hirer from teams that are in the playoffs. The Pats have been through this several times.

....I think they can only be interviewed this week if your team's got a bye-week,......I hope he stays with the pats.

You won't have any more loyalty out of your staff if you hold them back. Hire good people and encourage them to do their best and they will get offers. Organizations that "grow" their staff get better people when they need them.
Patriots are a great organization. Of course their staff will get offers.....

Wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. The coordinators that are fielding all the coaching calls this year are coming out of New England, Denver, Seattle and Arizona. No surprise that the hot prospects mostly reside in the top ranked teams in the playoffs. Same story every year.

McDaniels probably doesn't want to wait 6-8 years for Belichick to retire. I think McDaniels is a good coordinator and if he learned some lessons from the Denver debacle he could be a good coach.

But I don't think he'll look as good without Brady as the QB and Belichick as a mentor.
