"Coming from a single-parent environment, coming up in the hoods, sometimes, we're undeveloped," Clarett told the players. "We're great football players, but we're s--- people. We don't have the skills to perform.

"Essentially, I was what y'all was: a national champion. How do you go from being Mr. Everything to Mr. Nothing?"

Clarett, 31, detailed how his delinquent behavior as a child in Youngstown, Ohio, didn't change after he became a football star at Ohio State in 2002. Only after he entered prison, in 2006, did he begin reading about business and developing his true interests outside of football.

"A lot of y'all need to grow up," Clarett told the players. "That's the bottom line. What happened to Maurice Clarett in prison was, I needed to grow the f--- up. You had the world in your hands, the NFL in your hands, and you f---ed it up because you want to be a gangsta."

Maurice Clarett speaks to Florida State Seminoles, asks players to develop interests other than football
Saw Clarett on ESPN 30 for 30 some time ago. Great story and happy to see things turned around. Hope he made an impact and thanks for sharing this.

Besides getting paid he could possibly want to help kids not make the same mistakes he did by telling his story. :noidea:

Maybe I could talk to them and give them guidance. Let examine the facts 57 W/M you was second string linebacker and running back on his high school team (there was no third string). Yeah, they'll listen to me.

Thanks Maurice Clarrett, keep up the good work and good word.

What person would have the time to go and speak to multiple groups/teams/universities without getting paid?

Unless you are a self made millionaire you couldn't do it.

Osu fans only on the defense? Hmm
The kid screwed up, he knows it and now is trying to live right and educate any others that are on his path. Everyone should be pimping this kind of behavior.

Why now? Why not years ago? Simple question
Maybe, just maybe, people wanted to see him stay straight over several years?
Maybe, he was too busy finishing his degree at Ohio State?
Maybe, it took him a long time to process his issues and he just wasn't ready?

Not really a simple question. His life hasn't been a bed of roses, most of it by his own self-admitted idiocy. He appears to have it together now. Instead of continuing to beat him up about it perhaps you should either ignore it or admire it.

For some people, you could gold plate a pile of shit and they would complain that you didn't use platinum.

Have you ever seen a human tragedy you couldn't exploit for your own benefit?
