I've been saying this for some time. The idea of being rewarded for losing is reddiculous.

For me it really comes down to 1 of 2 things to determine the 4 playoff teams.

1. Do you want the "best" teams?
2. Do you want to reward the most deserving teams?

2010 and 2011 are perfect examples for me. Both involving Alabama.

In 2010, Alabama incurred 3 losses. However, I certainly would have included them in a top 4 of "best" teams that year.

In 2011, I felt Alabama was better than Okie State (maybe even 10 points or more better), but Okie State had accomplished more and actually had some hardware to prove it.

If you want to remove as much bias and opinion as possible, you should stick to a formula which rewards teams for their accomplishments and not their perceived potential.

Because they are too caught up in the whole this conference is so much better than that conference debate.

Its stupid.

yup.. I don't mind having a playoff system, but if 3 out of the 4 teams are from the SEC... or whatever top conference that year, then I don't want it at all. Half the fun is watching teams play it off after having a good season. The last thing I want this to be is a repeat of some conference's title game.

Good post. In regards to you two scenarios, I don't think Bama deserved it in either year based on what each team accomplished or lack there of.

That is the crux.

Removing bias. Set a criteria (win your conference) and then there is no one to blame other than the team itself for losing and not meeting that criteria.

Only one team can win the title.
