The Mariners are now at $90M committed for 2024. It would put them 27th in the league if the season began today (based on 2023 salaries)

Again:

We traded a guy who was once our top prospect and as of 2 years ago was wanted by others for veteran talent. Today is was traded for

1- A 20 year old coming of of Tommy John and who has yet to pitch as a pro.
2- A former 1st round pick from 2018 now on his 3rd team.

I get the end game, but this and Suarez deal is just a slap in our faces. 46 years invested in this team and this is how they repay us.

Hmm, so let’s add it up, they now need a MLB quality hitter in LF, RF, 3B, 2B, 1B and DH plus trading Marco means they have to sign two FA pitchers in order to trade Miller or Woo. I am bias and love Kelenic but how does this make sense? After the Geno deal I said even Ohtani doesn’t make this team a WS contender, now Ohtani and Snell/Yamamoto doesn’t make this a WS contender.

Problem is they need now need two splashes. With how the roster currently is, even signing Ohtani they aren’t as good as they were last year.
That is my point as well. A big splash will have to be a tsunami. Over and over. We need enough players that payroll will need to be $200M+ now and that is IF we can convince anyone to come to this incompetent org.

Jerry Dipoto indicated that the Mariners intend to be "industrious" with the payroll flexibility that tonight's trade freed up: "We do intend to go out and put it to immediate use to make our team better."

Yeah I don’t get it. It seems they are dumping payroll to land Ohtani or Yamamoto but even those two dudes together don’t make the team better as they stand. Would assume they would trade Miller or Woo, but Ohtani can’t pitch and Yamamoto hasn’t reached 200 innings in Japan so not sure why they would trade Marco when Ray won’t be back until the AS break.

Even giving them the massive benefit of the doubt I don’t see how it is possible to field a team that has a chance to win the World Series now without blowing out the budget.

I don't either. Even with what's his name playing 3B, we need a LF, a RF, a DH. Then to get better than last year we also need to add a better 3B, 2B, backup catcher. 6 positions plus relievers. At say on average $12M per position for average upgrades that is $72M more. That is not including any improvements to the starting rotation.
