Internally, it seems recent trade acquisition Luis Urías has the upper hand on the job. Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic (X link) and Daniel Kramer of MLB.com each report that Seattle plans to give Urías the third base job.

Unless they have a deal in place to sign Matt Chapman, they might as well just say they're rebuilding. Or better yet just admit they'll never have the payroll to compete.

No one says Jerry is dumb, but if he traded Geno only to sign Chapman then we can officially say he is a dumb (his job is the GM no matter how they try to explain it). With how Geno played 3B this year, they are the exact same player. Chapman had an ungodly April then his offense was worse than Geno the rest of the way. It’s hard to say it’s a salary dump because sure they dumped 11 or so million but they just traded for 4.5 million on a scrub Urias. Urias is a platoon player, his MLB career has shown that is his ceiling.

These moves don’t make sense and no justification for this move unless they are getting Ohtani and Bellinger/Soto. I pointed out on the other thread they went into the offseason needing 3 bats, LF/RF/DH plus 2B. Well they let Teo go and traded Geno. So they went from needing 3 legit MLB bats to needing 5. Rojas and Urias both blew balls in 2023 and are not everyday starters. Sucks them selling us on one dude to completely becoming a different player and being a legit starter, but now they got two. Combine those two and they are essentially Caballero. Even signing Ohtani, this offense isn’t a WS caliber team. Sick of Jerry subtracting from the MLB roster and selling us on it making them better. He literally is doubling down on the 54% bs. I dislike 99% of Jerry’s move but if he were just Billy Beane and not tell us his motives it would be better. His reasoning from saying it makes the team deeper is just dumb and false.
