Just because the south doesn't want to claim them doesn't mean that they're suddenly our problem up north.

As far as West Virginia goes they are a Yankee state, after all they split off from Virginia at the start of the Civil War when Virginia went to the South. Kentucky was a border state but really more Yankee than Missouri.

They're still a bunch of hillbillies. They just weren't a slave state because it's in the mountains, so there weren't any plantations or use for slaves.

Actually, the nickname "badger" has nothing to do with the animal. It was what they called the miners in Wisconsin (because they lived underground).

But the ones in Wisconsin could read and didn't marry their cousins.
