Not to mention I don't see where Craig fits in the roster with Ortiz at DH, Napoli at 1B, Cespedes in left and Victorino in right.

A Cespedes/Bradley/Victorino outfield is pretty good defensively though.

Let's not crown the A's just yet. Beating the Tigers & Angels/O's in a playoffs series is far from a lock

I would take this opportunity to remind everybody how dominant A's pitching was at the start of the century, and how many titles they won with that pitching.

Craig can play the other half of the season that Vic misses:suds:

They wanted to re-sign Lester but on their terms. They would have been ecstatic to have Lester finish out his career doing 1-year contracts with the club but he wants a long term deal that they don't want to make.

Personally, I think the most likely scenario is Oakland doesn't win the World Series, Lester signs elsewhere in 2015, and no one ever remembers that he wore an A's uni for two months.

they offered him 4 yrs in spring training so they must have had some interest. Problem is they tried to take advantage of him and get him get him for min.wage

Craig is signed through 2018. He joins Buchholz and Pedroia as the only players with contract beyond next season... This is a huge pickup for Boston (if he gets out of his current funk)...

That's a big if. He's 30 and has gone through various injuries over the last few years.

Also saw the Sox are trading Corey Littrell along with Lackey. He's a fringe at best prospect, but even then, it kinda irks me that the Sox are giving up a prospect and cash when the Sox are the ones are getting the riskier return.

Joe Kelly is only 26 - he went 10-5, 2.69 last year.... We'll certainly have to wait and see how he transitions to the American League.

I still like this trade.

well the deal itself Im not sure that giving up cespedes bat for lesters arm really makes you that much better now donaldson really needs to pick up the slack because gomes and fuld wont. lester is having a good season but looking at his past seasons his ERA is normally around a 3.5 which is good not great (you can probably blame fenway) and other than 09 and 10 doesnt normally get around 200 strikeouts. cespedes is going to be hitting behind ortiz which should be fun and in that ballpark his batting stats should go up.

OOPS - It's hard to blame the people in the Oakland Athletics promotions department for this, but there's a pretty awkward giveaway scheduled for Saturday. The A's are giving the first 10,000 fans through the gates a free T-shirt of just-departed slugger Yoenis Cespedes.

The fallacy in this is ridiculous. I guess the Phillies should have been expecting a ~4.00 ERA when they traded for Cliff Lee?

Lester's strikeout rate this year is in line with 2009-10 and his walk rate is by far the lowest of his career right now. His K/BB ratio this year is 4.66, his career best was 3.52 in 2009. He currently has an FIP and xFIP lower than what they were in 2009-10.

Hopefully they'll at least spell his name correctly, unlike a certain franchise and their all-star SS.

Hey 90's! Welcome back!

The Sox new owners revamped Fenway. The actually removed the troughs and installed toilets and urinals! Their clubhouse facilities are among the best in the league... I don't think playing at a football stadium will make him forget Boston....

My first trip to Fenway there was a turd in the trough.

Memories...

I guess the Mariners should expect Kyle Seager to bat around .260 with an OPS+ around 110 instead of .281 and 136. After all, it's what he was batting in 2012 or 2013.

And I guess you should expect Felix Hernandez to finish with an ERA around 3. After all, he had a 3.20 ERA from 2011-13.
