Lillard and Westbrook went off on him too. Defense is not really his thing.

Kyrie did outplay him.
James easily outplayed everyone.
Yet, the series basically came down to one shot.
Thoughts?

My thoughts are that Steph had the worst finals by an MVP in the history of the league and Cavs fans should take that as a gift and move on.

the stats indicate Irving was the superior player. The casual observer might also think the same. Here is what I saw though:

Golden State guarded Kyrie 1 on 1. They switched screens and stayed home on shooters, basically daring him to beat them, which he did.

Cleveland blitzed Curry on ball screens and made every effort to get the ball out of his hands. They took a team approach to guarding him and their game plan forced the GS others to beat them.

In other words, the numbers don't tell the story. The defensive strategies by both teams played a huge role in determining those numbers. This series performance will surely overinflate Kyrie's actual worth. He is and always has been one of the best one on one players in the game. It should be no surprise that he thrived in this situation.

But yes. Curry needs to play better despite the attention to justify the hardware.

Yeah, I agree. To me, that's where Lue outcoached Kerr. Lue figured out a defensive scheme that kept Curry in check. Kerr never adjusted his defense, even after it became obvious that what they were doing wasn't working.

Lue did a good job, but I don't buy that he's the only coach that could figure Curry out. Steph choked, and choked hard.

Yes and no. Curry needed to play better, no doubt. He also continued to rely on the 3 instead of trying to drive to the hoop or shooting more mid-range shots to get himself going.

But, the Cavs defense had a lot to do with that. The difference was that, going in, Lue knew that if he tried to stop Curry by having Kyrie guard him one on one, he was going to get killed, so he didn't make him try. He adjusted his defense and threw a bunch of different looks at him. Even in the first 2 games, when the Warriors blew the Cavs out, it wasn't because Curry played so well, it was because everyone else did.

Kyrie Irving can score every way possible. Steph Curry game is mostly 3's with no defense.

Not true.

Irving is a more complete scorer, but Curry is a much more complete player and a better one. To say Curry's game is only 3s tells me that you have not watched him play. He is much more. Cleveland made him one dimensional in the Finals, but that isn't what he is.

It proves Cleveland beat and had to comeback from 3-1 deficit against a far superior team that had ridiculous depth.
