Kopitar was 2nd in voting which shocked me because Toews gets more exposure.

Don't really have a problem with Bergeron winning it. Dude is a fucking beast on both sides of the puck.

I am fine with it. Second in the regular season is pretty good for a western guy

Kopi has two rings. That's more important.

No doubt. But it would be nice at some point for the hockey writers to pull their heads out of their east coast biased asses and acknowledge him.

I think being voted 2nd is pretty good acknowledgement.

Blue I agree with you. Kopitar will get it next year. Hockey voting has a political nature of voting for guys who they feel deserved it in past but not won. Quick deserved Vezina in 2012 but the King hadn't won it yet so he won. It's frustrating and nuts, but welcome to the NHL.

Yeah Kopitar has been pretty well hidden from the limelight as far as the East Coast voters are concerned and as much as we hate to admit it most of the NHL voters are located back east. Kopitar got a lot of exposure and good press during this year's Stanley Cup run. They'll watch him closer next season and he'll do even better in the voting. I actually figured Bergeron would win it this year just looking at the numbers. Too bad the league doesn't take the post-season into consideration but that wouldn't really be fair to the players on teams that don't make it to the playoffs.

He will win it next year, I'm just happy he finally was formally recognized for it. He would be A 100 point center if he played for another team who wasn't as defensive minded as LA is.

I can't count how many articles I have read over the last 5 years and read the comments where people said "he is overrated". Yeah no, he isn't - he's one of the most complete 3 zone players in the league and the prototype center in terms of size and intelligence.

This was from the Chicago board alone:

I don't see anything negative about Kopitar being said.

Toews is better, everyone outside of LA knows that.

Disagree, as did the voters. Toews is a very good player, but this year Kopitar was better.
Here's how the votes were tallied. The Professional Hockey Writers' Association decided the winner.

1. Patrice Bergeron, BOS 1,283 (112-21-2-2-0)
2. Anze Kopitar, LA 840 (20-66-26-15-3)
3. Jonathan Toews, CHI 624 (2-36-57-20-7)
4. David Backes, STL 415 (3-5-31-59-18)
5. Marian Hossa, CHI 66 (0-5-2-2-15)
6. Ryan O'Reilly, COL 58 (0-0-3-10-13)
7. Tomas Plekanec, MTL 45 (0-0-4-5-10)
8. Joe Pavelski, SJ 32 (0-0-2-3-13)
9. Sean Couturier, PHI 30 (0-1-2-1-10)
10. Ryan Getzlaf, ANA 22 (0-1-1-2-4)
11. Ondrej Palat, TB 19 (0-0-1-3-5)
12. David Krejci, BOS 16 (0-0-2-1-3)
13. Pavel Datsyuk, DET 11 (0-1-0-1-1)
14. Antoine Vermette, PHX 11 (0-0-0-3-2)
15. Alex Steen, STL 9 (0-0-1-1-1)
16. Paul Stastny, COL 8 (0-1-0-0-1)
17. Frans Nielsen, NYI 8 (0-0-1-1-0)
18. Sidney Crosby, PIT 8 (0-0-0-2-2)
19. Tyler Johnson, TB 6 (0-0-1-0-1)

I won't argue with that.

But Kopitar certainly wasn't hosed.

I didn't see anything negative being said at all - my point was no one realized how good Kopitar was, which was fine by me.

He's been under the radar for years; he plays for another team back East or even Chicago or the Blues and he is all over the news as much as the other guys.

I could see why many would see this as Kopitar getting hosed, but keep in mind it's a regular season award and Bergeron's Bruins were quite dominant with their defense during the regular season. I could see a good case for all 3 finalists to tell you the truth. Great defensive season by all 3.

I agree, and I am fine with Bergeron winning it. Not only is he now a two time winner, but he built up to that prior to the Bruins' Cup win in 2011. He's solid in every zone.

These awards generally take a few years to win, they base it on the player's body of work over 2-4 years it seems. Unless it's the Norris, which has become a joke - if you're a defenseman and bag double digit goals close to 20 or above, you're pretty much a lock to win it. Pathetic.

In Kopitar's case, I think he was worthy of it at least 3 years ago but because he didn't/doesn't get the press guys like Bergeron, Toews, Kesler, Datsyuk et al get it's taken him longer. Same thing for Quick and the Vezina, he should have won it at least once in the last 4 years.

You also got to hand it to Bergeron, dude played with a punctured lung among other significant injuries last year in the playoffs. Grit and smarts, a worthy winner.

Bergeron's tough no doubt. But it's hockey, and you know that most guys are playing with some kind of injury in the playoffs. Especially the deeper you get.

Do I think Toews is the best center? Sure I do, I'm biased.

But I don't have any problems at all with Toews finishing behind Kopitar and Bergeron.

Kopitar is a top 5 center, along with Toews, Bergeron, Crosby and Kesler.

That's just stupid, im not in LA and I think Kopitar is better. Would I like to have Toews on my team? Sure, but not if it meant not having Kopitar

I don't think most players play with a punctured lung tho.

Not only that, but I think he had a couple cracked ribs and a broken nose too.

Yeah dude is a warrior. Mad props for Patrice Bergeron for sure. Wish he were a Penguin, he could teach our forwards a thing or 2 about 2 way play.
