I don't buy for a second that his short kickoffs cost the team more than his made field goals. I get the concern but we've been looking for a guy to actually make field goals consistently since Chip Lohmiller. To me it's not that hard to cover a kickoff.

Just for the record, I have no desire to see Forbath be replaced. But there is truth in the fact that Kai does not stand out in the league on KOs.

Forbath has said his short kickoffs were by design to pin returners inside the 20. I can buy some of that, but not all. He needs competition from someone again to challenge him on kickoffs.

Nonsense. It nearly cost him his job, the coaches clearly favored the other kicker (forgot his name) going into camp and had he made 1 more kick in preseason Kai was out based strictly on his short kickoffs.

Again I go back to the old rules where kickoffs were returned routinely. How many broke for TDs? 1 a year if that? And the extra 10 yards a short kickoff results in with a return to the 30 is not as big of a deal that a missed field goal is. That's why i like Kai, missed FGs are killers in this game and we've had a series of kickers who killed the team in the recent past with missed FGs. Just cover the kick like any good team does and the problem is reduced significantly.
