Kind of interesting how quickly this happened... last week Donaldson was poking A's ownership on twitter. Shark is up next. These moves scream rebuild while waving the white flag on 2015.

Why would the A's rebuild? They have one of the best rotation in baseball and that alone puts you in the mix. It's not like the SF Giants have been some offensive juggernaut.

If the Athletics shouldn't be competing for the playoffs right now, this would be a pretty good trade. A lot of talent coming back their way. But there's little reason for them to be in rebuilding mode right now.

Why would the A's rebuild? They have one of the best rotation in baseball and that alone puts you in the mix. It's not like the SF Giants have been some offensive juggernaut.

They were actually a pretty decent team on offense overall being 10th in wRC+. at 101 (yikes, 101 is good for 10th?) In fact, the position players, when you add defense, were consistently rated in the top 10 of fWAR. Oddly enough the pitching staff (both units having the same ranking) is ranked 28th, despite rating well in FIP and xFIP.
