The guy has let Mike Napoli, Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, and Nelson Cruz go over the last few years. All we have to show for it is a struggling Prince Fielder and a lead off man who never scores runs because of the guys behind him. Arencibia..... Really? Soto........ Huh? We could've tried to outbid Chicago for Abreu, I wanted him. You guys give me shit about the Moreland hate, but Abreu / Napoli / Cruz would've addressed the power shortage we have. We either let those guys go or didn't pursue other guys because of Mitch.
On the pitching front, he built the staff on hopes and dreams. Granted, Holland and Perez weren't his fault, but the odds were against Harrison and Lewis coming back and being like their former selves. Last year, Kyle Lohse wanted to come here. Currently, he is 5-1 with a 2.88 era with the Brewers. Ervin Santana was attainable, he is currently 4-0 with a 2.22 ERA playing for the Braves. He let Nathan go without even thinking twice. Soria has done well as the closer, but how valuable would Soria have been holding down the 8th inning this year?
The question becomes, what the hell is JD waiting for? He's obviously not spending enough money or he's not spending it wisely. I know we have a budget, but we're not necessarily Tampa Bay and we did sign that huge TV contract. The money is there, you can tell me about our great farm system, but who has come through the pipeline and contributed at a major league level? Certainly not Profar.... JD got us into this mess, At this point I'd say his strategy is flawed, he relies too much on " giving guys a shot" and doesn't like to pony up for a " sure thing" we could've and should've kept Napoli from going to Boston. I still think Cruz isn't here because of some childish bullshit reason, Baltimore has used Cruz as the DH in PLENTY of games so far. Maybe JD is hard to work with.
