The Kansas City Royals acquired veteran right-handed reliever Jason Frasor from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

[+] EnlargePeter G. Aiken/USA TODAY SportsJason Frasor is headed from last place to second place after his trade to Kansas City.

The Rangers acquired right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton, who has spent the entire season at Triple-A Omaha, in exchange for Frasor, who was 1-1 with a 3.34 ERA in 38 appearances this season.
Patton, 26, has a 4-3 mark and a 4.08 ERA this season, converting 14 of 15 save chances. He was picked to play in Wednesday night's Triple-A All-Star Game and will participate as scheduled before reporting to Round Rock, the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate.
The 36-year-old Frasor will help solidify the Royals' middle relief for a bullpen that is strong in the back end thanks to setup man Wade Davis (1.13 ERA, 17 holds) and closer Greg Holland (1.82 ERA, 25 saves).
He also will join former teammate Scott Downs in the Royals' middle relief corps. The left-handed Downs and Frasor were teammates with the Toronto Blue Jays from 2005 to '10.
Frasor will be a free agent after this season.
To make room on their roster, the Royals optioned Louis Coleman to Omaha and designated utility player Jimmy Paredes for assignment.
The Royals, at 48-46, are in second place in the AL Central, 6.5 games behind the first-place Detroit Tigers. The Rangers (38-57), meanwhile, are in retooling mode, mired in last place in the AL West, 21 games behind the first-place Oakland Athletics.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I heard he was going to DH for the Royals, so we are good.

Guess the Tigers didn't need any relief help.

Yes, a reliever is just what the Royals needed to make the playoffs.

If the Royals don't get a legit power bat, nothing is going to matter...Moving Perez up to the 3 or 4 hole helps but need a RF or 3b if they really want to make a legit statement. Even if they have to move Shields to get one, as long as they get a pitcher in return, more comfortable with Ventura/Duffy now.

Jaws would drop if Beltre, Utley, Morales, Stanton get to KC for this season, then flipped in the off season for the 2 that may still have years left on contract.
