I doubt the school presidents would go for participation in the playoffs, but they could test the waters by allowing their champion to participate in a bowl game vs a team from another FCS league.

Kinda cool that they still see athletics as just one piece of a student's academic experience, but OTOH..."money"

So it’s not that the conference is considering it, just a writer is making an argument for them to.

It would be funny to see them go to NDS and get sodomized by a Bison.

They participate in the playoffs in every other sport, why not
football? Actually, the Ivy League and the Patriot league should
sponsor a bowl game between their champs. Except for the early
years of the FCS playoffs, when Lehigh was a power and a few years
back when Colgate made a nice run to the title game. Those leagues
can't really compete with the rest of FCS.

They would just need a dome somewhere with 15k seats, that's
close by.

The SWAC and MEAC do that and will not participate in the playoffs.

Speaking of the Ivy League though. Does anybody remember
when Bob Blackmon, the former great coach at Dartmouth put
Joe Paterno in his place...50 some years ago?

Dartmouth had gone 9-0-0 in 1970 and had been named
Lambert Trophy Champions. The Lambert Trophy was awarded
to the best ECAC major college in those days. The Lambert Cup
to the best Eastern Small College.

Anyway, Paterno was outraged and demanded that Dartmouth
play Penn St (7-3) in a bowl game. He carried that tirade on for
more than a week. Well, the Ivy League had already stated that
nobody from their league participates in a bowl game.

Sportswriters questioned Blackmon and asked him if he would
appeal to the league for an exception.

Blackmon said he understood where Paterno was coming from,
but the League rule is pretty firm. Then Blackmon took the
jab at Paterno. He added..."If I did ask for and get an exception,
I'd want my team playing somebody other than some 3 loss
also ran,"

You gotta love it.
