We agree on the two main points:
  1. Stanton's durability can reasonably be questioned.
  2. He wouldn't want to give up his opt-out, but the team acquiring may or may not want him to.

Since you agree that teams may or may not want him to opt-out, I don't think it would be a deal-breaker for the trading team and therefore Stanton would hold onto it. If he doesn't opt-out, he's a 7/$208 million player at the age where players usually hit free agency. Considering where the market is going, I assume he'll be able to get more than that on the free market so he would opt-out.

Not by me, and apparently not by @broncosmitty.

Last year was only his second full season in his career.
I'd be impressed if he hits 57 homers over the next two years.

He did it this year, but didn't the last two combined.

His body has nowhere to go but down. That contract should stay Jeters problem imo.

Not sure who I'd want to invest in less GS or Bryce Harper. Corner outfielders with poor track records with health aren't hot commodities.

Justin Upton was a wiser addition for LA. Just not a splash with kiddos like guys that get T-Mobile commercials.

Interesting discussion. Stanton, Bumgarner, Harper, Votto.

The Detroit Tigers might sign Jon Jay....or they could stick with Mikie Mahtook. :) :L

Would have liked to see Boston make a bigger push for him, myself. Oh well hope they kick the tires on Yelich or Ozuna out of Miami.

He's so good that you have to give some to get him. I'd hate to see Bumgarner go though.

Very true but do you think that him alone will "do it" for the Giants? But yes I do think Bumgarner's days might be behind him

No, but they are basically the same team that won the Series in 2014 and scared the shit out of the Cubs in 2016. He'd certainly help. He had more than triple the amount of homers that the Giants leading homreun hitter had last year.

didn't really think about the 2014 team. You do have a point... He certainly would help but not enough to push them over the edge

Probably not. Would be fun to watch him every day though.

Giants are also in on Cain.

They may need to move Belt just to afford both Cain and Stanton (assuming their luxury tax concerns are true).

Sox would happily help with that. :)

That it would. Especially watching the balls go into the water!
I think only two right-handed hitters have ever hit a ball in the water at AT&T. But if anyone else can do it, Stanton can. I'm sure he has good power to Right Field.

I thought you meant Matt Cain. I was really confused.

Talks for Stanton seem to be getting heavier. Love to see him in SF if it doesn't cost too much pitching. We have no everday players that the Marlins would want.
