He's so good that you have to give some to get him. I'd hate to see Bumgarner go though.well doesn't Stanton want to go to San Fran anyway? However I'd think they would have to sell the farm to get him
I think Bum’s best days are behind him.
Im not sure a trade of "we'll take his contract and buy you lunch." is a good idea tbh. (WHich is what the Tigers are hoping to get for Miggy.)He missed 39+ games in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016.
This seems to get ignored, that's a lot of time missed.

He breaks himself swinging a bat. 10 years 295 million left. And his youth is over.
Good odds he buries the franchise he's traded to.
I wasn't aware of the opt out.agreed, just not sure the risk is worth trading prospects and taking on that contract. And even if he hits like he did in 2017, chances are he'll just opt out anyway.
Votto's game is based on skill more than talent.if the Sox were to take on a large contract for a premier hitter, I'd rather have Votto. I think he'll age more gracefully than most hitters just because of his eye.

Why would Stanton agree to that?I’m assuming any team that trades for him would get that opt out struck from the contract.
It was really his 4th healthy season. 2017, 2014, 2011, and 2010. His rookie year he just played 53 games in AA before being called up.Not by me, and apparently not by @broncosmitty.
Last year was only his second full season in his career.

Really depends if that's a deal breaker or not for either side. Since he has a no-trade clause, I don't think he would want to give that up in accepting a deal. And we see boatloads of prospects traded for players who have 3 years left in their deal all the time, so I don't think that would be a deal breaker for the trading team.I don't know that he would, but if he did, it could be because he wants off a shitty team that doesn't want him. It's not unheard of for a player being traded to a new club to negotiate terms on his existing contract.
Conversely, why would a team agree to give up a boatload of cash and/or prospects for a player that could potential leave in three years.
Honestly, because of Stanton's durability questions, if I were a team considering acquiring him, I'd want to make sure he exercised that opt out clause.
